Much like I had high hopes for Where the Wild Things Are... and that turned out to be a let down too Great to look at, and a great visual comparison from book to screen... but weird elements that didn't lend themselves to the rest of the story, such as the ripping off of Douglas' arm.

500 days of summer, I was actually pretty impressed with this one. The character dynamics were unique, and the film often reminded me of a fairytale ( sort of like "pushing daisies")
The whole thing played a lot like the film "Gigantic", except you know, good. And I've now decided that Zooey Deschanel is Hollywood's go to girl for a blank wistful stare, that allows the audience to imprint whatever they themselves are thinking (I don't know if this is an acting choice, or they just give her peanut butter like Mr. Ed). That being said, she was the perfect choice for this particular character.
This is definitely an interesting one, as it is bound to stir up a great deal of emotional memories in it's male audience members. a rarity in an industry wrought with chick flicks, who's male characters are as one note as they are one track minded. The emotional spectrum of the films main character was complex, and sometimes unnervingly realistic. By the end you too feel a twinge of that all-too-familiar sense of loss, and heartbreak...
Damn you Zooey Deschanel , you spliff enchanting harlot... damn you to hell!!! 8/10

I hated the little sister. I hated Zooey. Most of all I hated it's it's entire concept which practically robs "Annie Hall". fu-k this movie. Didn't really expect that this was your kind of film, but seriously, you of all people are going to make the argument that it borrows from other films... you have gone on whole page tirades against this exact argument. As for the little sister, I don't think that she had enough onscreen time to garner any sort of film defining opinion. Still, not really surprised you hated it.

No, I'm going to make that argument when it blatantly rips off another movie. This movie is the most overrated sack of sh-t released last year. I think that, what after 30 years, it ceases to be ripping off, and starts to become homage...there are only so many ideas floating around out there. As far as the classic Indie-breakup-film goes, this was one of the better ones. I don't particularly give a f-ck if it was popular or not, as I went into it without having heard anything about it.

Anyone that has even watched Annie Hall should be raped by russian bears, and be shat on by Rosie Odonnell who would also be on the rag and suffering from a yeast infection, and she would use their face as a full ass to cunt wiping board

Todd, is that you Todd?... I know things have not been going well for your company, but honestly it's not Holeman's fault. Go back to writing your pithy little comic book about... what is it, an angry clown or something, I don't know I'll go ask the 90s.

"The Box" needs to be put in a box and burned, made literally no sense, any semblance of intelligence and possibly any good idea was thrown out the window. Stupid movie.

THANK YOU!! I was just going to ask your opinion on that movie...
I sat through the whole thing (god knows how) just to see if it would make more sense in the end... I can't tell you how many times my dad walked past the room with this quizzical look of 'wth are you watching'... I tried explaining and in the end he asked if I ever figure out what was going on. I had to tell him that after 2 hrs 45 min I had no idea what I'd just been watching.
What was with the random cartoon!? The Donnie Darko effect at the end?! etc!?
I still had my movie store when it came out, and people would look up at the 'Now Showing' board, asking what it was... my answer was always, "Don't ask. I can't explain it, you don't want to know, and save yourself the time." Only the very brave (or stupid, depending on your point of view) chose to view it despite my advice. ALL came back saying the same thing I did. I've yet to meet someone who completely understands it!

Well, keep looking, because I've seen it three times and I still have no clue what the fu-k it's about. Great soundtrack though! 3 times!? You deserve some sort of award for that! My head hurt from trying to comprehend it about halfway through it. I really tried to give it a chance, because I loved Donnie Darko... but I too am beginning to think it was sheer luck on his part with that one. BiZaRrE movie!! Maybe one day I'll come across the person strung out enough on drugs to understand it... I would love for someone to explain it to me! Soundtrack- I agree

I'm not strung out on drugs, and I didn't think it was all that complicated... sort of simplistic in science-fiction terms (space-time rift = common theme).
Rift in time and space creates two versions of the same person operating in the same timeline ending in a huge paradoxical explosion.
It was the comical and satirical answer to Donnie's dark and dramatic take on the Paradox theme. similar concept, different dramatic approach.

Well I mean, David Lynch films are complicated, because he expects you to complete the other half of the sentence with implied symbolism... and Fellini films are complicated because they expect you to complete the entire sentence with symbolism. But so far, Richard Kelly's films give you everything you need to complete the circuit, only veiled in hyperbole and hyper stylized storytelling. It reminds me of someone throwing "memento" into a blender with "Tank girl" and "natural born killers". your mind makes it more complicated simply by assigning meaning to simple stylistic choices... we're going to have a musical number here, now time for a cartoon.

I just saw Sherlock Holmes, I missed it in the theater, and actually am sort of glad that I did. The whole thing left me feeling a little bit lackadaisical, there was a scene here and there that was enjoyable, but the feeling that you are actually a detective alongside Sherlock Holmes looking at the clues presented, and trying yourself to figure out what was going on was completely lacking. The plot was depressingly simple, and the film relied almost completely on Robert Downey Junior's charm ( a highlight of course) but fell flat in almost every other department.
I will still take "without a clue", "the Young Sherlock Holmes", "The Seven-Per-Cent Solution", or hell even "House"over this Guy Ritchie silliness any day of the week.
Sherlock Holmes for people not interested in mystery, oh well maybe the next one.
