Back at work this week. Two of the guys who had been out for the past few weeks sound like they definitely had COVID but were too young to get tested. All the classic symptoms were there, and ER docs told them they likely had it. But enough time has passed that now they SHOULD be clear to be back at work. Still gonna keep a healthy social distance from them though.
And I failed at my one goal last week. I didn't watch Lawrence of Arabia, got hooked on a rewatch of Fringe (fucking great show) and realized I've never actually seen anything beyond season 2, so that grabbed my attention for the most part. If I'm off next week, then it's Lawrence time.

My wife has been going in Mondays to jam through a few things and do payroll. So while she's been home she's been making masks. Made a bunch for us and people at my work, her mom, my sister and her family, and anyone who wants them. She's got a good rhythm going with them at this point. Although it looks like we have a rotation of bikini tops for one boob hanging in the front bathroom, since we clean the one we've worn each day. My assistant called out today. So I went in to set things back up since we were closed yesterday for Easter. She said she has a fever and was throwing up. Sounds like her usual vegan-who-hasn't-learned-how-to-eat-properly problems to me. And, I know she was not wanting to set up, after hearing she'd been whining about it Saturday before she left. She's kind of horrible. But for all sorts of reasons I can't get rid of her. Yet. Hopefully she doesn't have this shit and it really is just poor nutrition and being lazy. My money says she stays out the next couple of days, then is off her normal 2 days, then goes in Saturday for an hour and leaves. It's kind of a pattern. But another guy called out as well, saying his dad was feverish and so they were going to get tested. Guess we'll see with all of them. Ugh.

Vomiting isn’t a symptom of COVID so if your assistant is trying to pass her veganism off as the rona then she’s full of shit.

Exactly. When I saw that in her text I knew it was her usual bullshit. "Um, I dunno. My stomach is really upset and I threw up."
Vegans can flourish when they do it right. But I've known more than a few who have no goddamn clue what they're doing and just eat candy and smoothies and are sick all the time.

Meh, if it wasn't her MO for "working" 3 days a week I'd be a little more concerned. I gave up worrying about her long ago. She doesn't seem interested in solving her problems, just taking advantage of them. So, I'll need more in this particular case.

Conversation I was having this morning made me think, how many of these "generational defining" events have those of us in our 30s-40s lived through so far? We had 9/11 and its aftermath, the endless Middle East wars, a major recession, natural disasters, a cataclysmic presidential election, a global pandemic, ANOTHER recession that risks turning into a full-on depression... And that's just starting in the 2000s. Go back to the 90s and we had another recession, the LA riots, the Oklahoma City bombing. AND, that's just stuff that impacted Americans. Other parts of the world have gotten it exponentially worse. We've been lucky compared to some.
There have been glimmers of hope scattered throughout the past couple decades, but some of us are definitely feeling "history fatigue" with no real end in sight. We have a good chance to start to right the ship this fall, but even if that goes the way I hope we'll have years of work ahead to clean up the mess left behind. Living in interesting times fucking blows.
So yeah... that's my mindset this week. I'm holding it together just fine thank you very much.

It's all over the place. People are cracking. I don't mean that as an insult to anyone feeling the pressure. It's an all-pervasive atmosphere that has absolutely changed the way we live. Anyone claiming to be unaffected is lying.
After 4 years of stress from seeing every good thing that was built to protect life and our environment get dismantled by a mentally deficient spiteful child, simply because "black man did it" has been rough enough. But throwing something this dire and devastating on top of that? Fuuuuuuuuuck. I'm honestly surprised we aren't reading about mass suicides every day to match the victims of the virus.

I've lost track of how many people I've seen wearing masks where the top of the mask comes up to their upper lip, leaving their nose uncovered. Leaving the mask useless. Leaving them and everyone around them just as vulnerable as if they weren't wearing a mask at all.

Had a tense exchange at work between a woman wondering why the young guy in front of her and couple behind her weren't wearing masks. The kid said he couldn't find any. The husband of the couple called her a bitch and told her to fuck herself.
Neat.

People are just the best. And these crises that drag on for weeks and months really bring out the best of the American spirit in people. And I mean that both sincerely and extremely sarcastically.
This is my last workday before quarantining again for another week, and I've spent all morning supervising 6 National Guard troops staging product for next week when I'll be gone. I kinda want them to call me Sarge but I'm way too embarrassed to ask.

Good job, Sarge. I'm not sure why - maybe temp labor or just harried and not paying attention - but we had 5 full carts of mispicks to donate to the food bank yesterday. UNFI isn't taking things back right now. They come Monday and Thursday, we usually have between half to a full cart each of dairy and grocery. So, that was decent. But then I read the stories about how much farmers are throwing away since restaurants, hotels and the like aren't open, and it's infuriating. Not only can we not find a way to get this food to people who need it, but we apparently can't fucking figure out how to get the food to the store shelves just to sell. It's not making sense to me, how weak our grasp of control really has been all this time, and it's now been exposed and destroyed. Another thing, with less people on the roads, the ones that are are driving even more like fucking shitheads. They're often going 15-20 miles over the limit, and just not paying a whole lot of attention. And in parking lots? They're even more oblivious. Nothing like seeing a fucker doing 50 through a lot to get to some other stupid thing they don't need to be doing. Tensions are heating up, patience is short. And we have months of some form of this left to go. Longer probably.

Arizona's given up. They got bored here, impatient. The attention spans can't handle it. No one's wearing masks anymore. Personal space is stupid.
It was goddamn depressing today. People are over it. I only feel bad about the people they're going to put in danger. Unless those people feel the same way. They can all die in that case.
It's funny, all the 2nd amendmenters who think this is about them don't seem to comprehend that this is the same as defending themselves and their family. They could be defending the country they pretend is the reason why they stockpile guns. That right now something as simple as a mask and space is the same as a gun. They have the choice to either defend or kill. Most of them are choosing to kill. Thanks, cunts. Hope it hurts for you.

I'm actually noticing more compliance in MD. I was holding off on the mask until it was required because I didn't have a mask and I'm like Charlie Brown with trying to make one, not good with scissors. When I went into stores I felt like the dangerous idiot that wasn't complying. I ended up folding down the head cover portion of a balaclava, but felt like a Polish ninja. Luckily my niece came through with a real one.

Quarantine week 2, Day 1:
Trying to stay in much more during this round. Things haven’t gotten noticeably worse around here, some people wear masks and some don’t, but I’m trying to limit my trips out of the house (only when necessary, always masked up). I’m feeling healthy so the precautions have been working, but there’s always the chance I’m an asymptotic carrier so I’m still not taking any risks.
I watched Knives Out this morning, really great movie. Thinking about doing an Infinity War / Endgame double feature later today. Lawrence of Arabia is still on the docket for some point this week. The disc is still sitting on top of the player, taunting me from its case. It knows I have the time, and I know I have the time. Soon, Lawrence, soon. Later this week when the walls are really and truly closing in, maybe then it will be time for epic widescreen desert vistas.

Mrs. Griffin and I were out yesterday to go pick up some photos and paintings that we'd had framed before the plague and to pay the second half of the order total so the frame shop doesn't go the fuck out of business. On the way there, maybe a four mile trip, we saw quite a few people out for walks, almost none were wearing masks, and we saw several instances where people just walked right past each other on the sidewalk like nothing was happening in the world. I've been to physical therapy a couple times in the last two weeks and Mrs. Griffin has been out a couple times to get food and TP, and neither of us had seen anything like this, so maybe it's a "Sunday driver" situation, but everyone was walking? The woman at the store asked us if we wanted her to wear a mask (!). We said "YES," and she put it on, but it kept falling down her nose, which is really very flat, so she needs a different one. She did a decent job maintaining distance, but it was closer to four feet than six. We're in Fairfax County. The people here are supposed to be the smart ones. WHAT THE FUCK? (Yeah, yeah. That's elitist. I don't give a shit).

Hey, I was born in Fairfax County! Haven’t lived there since 1982 though.
I just got back from a grocery run. Encouraging number of people wearing masks in the store, which was good. But then I live in a liberal enclave island in a sea of morons.

Walmarts up here all have arrows for the store to go one way. Woman was going against the flow and walking up to people and telling/yelling at them to back off she’s trying to social distance and being a general fucktard. Asked her if she’s doing this for a:) attention b:) cause she’s retarded or c:) a cunt. Few people said cunt loud enough for her to hear. Didnt seem to like that and stormed off.

Well, both my wife and my son are showing symptoms. Not sure if it's a regular cold or coronavirus. My son was told by our doctor to self quarantine for two weeks so no work. My wife's symptoms seem to be mild so far, keeping a close eye on her. She's had multiple health issues, so she may be considered at risk. Waiting for my own symptoms, if she's got it, it's a near certainty that I'll get it. Having trouble concentrating on work.

My wife had a fever yesterday, but went away on its own. She's got a cough, body aches and some congestion. The congestion feels like she can't cough it out. My son has the same thing with the cough. He's also felt tightness in his chest and he was getting winded more easily at work. He also had a fever on and off. It doesn't seem to be progressing for either of them so far. I've only had one symptom, on and off diarrhea. That's the frustrating part, if we weren't in the middle of this thing, we would think nothing of the symptoms.

Yeah, we've played that guessing game, too. We both had something early in Feb. that lasted longer than anything before. My wife had it a couple of weeks. But there's no knowing for sure. Here's hoping it just stays as mild as it is now.

Same here in March. It sucks. Get tested if you can. Maybe it's easier in MD now than it was in VA back then.

We have heard though that they can do that, then come on strong days later. Waiting it out at this point. I figure to stay away from potentially infected by not going to where they're going to get tested unless necessary.

Seriously. The person at the head of the country asked if we could inject disinfectant into people, or somehow shine UV light into their bodies to kill it.
We have some good governors, scientists and some amazing doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers out there actually doing work to beat this. But when you have to turn to a man who thinks Lysol is okay to inject, their work is all that much harder. No wonder we can't get tests and a single honest answer about the reality of this virus.
Best we can do is keep clean and wear masks and stay mindful of those around us. And try to help where we can.

I mean seriously. People with RA and Lupus who actually need hydroxychloroquine are having a hard time finding it because of this fucker and his moron supporters. Bleach and lysol are already hard to find these days. We don't need a nation-wide syringe shortage, too.

I'm all for Trumpers killing themselves to own the libs. They should totally do it. But, yeah, not at the expense of the things others need, who actually need them.
But, please, if any Trumper happens across this: do what you can to save the country by trying any of the cures your rapist in chief has prescribed, as soon as possible.
