Indiana governor issues 2-week "Stay-At-Home" order effective March 25.
I guess that's one way to keep my dad from going to the bookstore when he really shouldn't.

Unfortunately, these quarantines need to happen across the nation/continent/hemisphere/globe at the same time, or we're just stringing out the consequences.

I don't disagree, but "stringing out the consequences" is pretty much exactly the point. "Flatten the curve," man. I don't think anybody believes that this thing can actually be stopped anytime soon. The only realistic thing right now is to try to slow it down. Granted, it would work a lot better if states (only talking about the US here, right now) could coordinate in some way under national leadership we could count on, but that ship fucking sailed in November 2016.

I just set up mail order with my LCS today and just a couple hours later read that Diamond would stop accepting shipments into its warehouse for the foreseeable future. So, I fully expect my local shop, and most other comic shops around the country (and also a shitload of other small businesses around the country) to go out of business sometime this summer.

Diamond is also done shipping after this week and telling stores to sell what they already have and "be creative." Monopolies are cool.

I haven’t been to my LCS in years. I kinda quit buying comics cold turkey after realizing I was spending tons of money on stuff that was just sitting there unread. Then after realizing I didn’t really miss it I never went back. Always felt a little guilty about it though, even though it was a habit I’m glad I broke.
But after this is all over I’m going back in there to buy some more shit I don’t need, cuz ‘Merica.

I gotta say, even though I knew these people have no bottom to their depravity, I'm still surprised how quickly they've adopted "We need to save the economy even if it means killing potentially millions of Americans" as their new narrative.

Liz Cheney seems to be the only person on the right (in the government, anyway) with the common sense to know that the economy will only recover once people get better. Trying to force a "reopening of America" while the virus is still spreading and people are still getting sick and dying (and panicking) will only push things further down the toilet. MAGAts flipped the fuck out on her on Twitter. Fuck, we are doomed.

It’s such an insanely shortsighted move that I can’t believe there aren’t people, even in this administration, trying to convince Fuckface that any short term gains in the economy would be completely wiped out as the virus continues to spread and more and more people start to die.
I for one am not willing to sacrifice my parents for the fucking stock market.

I misspoke. Even Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz recognized how fucking stupid an idea this is. Trump said he wants full churches on Easter Sunday. Well, I want to sleep with Gal Gadot, but I'm married (as is she), and we've never met and live in two different countries. Maybe it's because I'm not a senile, adderall-addicted moron who's always had everything in life handed to him, but I can recognize that there's just way too much risk in even attempting such an endeavour.
Every ultra-conservative super-moron who goes out on social media or Fox News and says that he would gladly die to protect the economy (and there's a bunch), let's take him up on it.

Didn't want this thread to be political, but I guess that's about as unreasonable as expecting mature and sober considerations from the guy shits on a golden toilet. Especially in light of his decision to just pretend this isn't happening in order to "save" Wall Street. And he's already written off the potential dead. He's thinking: "Oh, they're concentrated in NYC, California and Washington. They weren't voting for me anyway, so it's a win no matter how you look at it." I expect he'll say as much soon enough.
But it seems he's not the only one who utterly lacks patience. Millions more are likely to die because of the short-attention-span, instant gratification nation of idiots that we are.
And it's not just grandparent and older parents. Yeah, a lot of them are being sacrificed. But this thing is killing young people as well.
I'm still numb to the exact realization of what is being said in such off-the-cuff ways in this country, about how easily it is to have already written off millions just for party-over-country. If we really go this route, I won't be surprised that it'll be the end of the country.
We're still not getting deliveries worth a shit. And the outlook for produce is grim for several weeks, for a few reasons.
And I'm so goddamned tired.

His Easter idea would kill thousands upon thousands of people in the Bible Belt, so he's clearly not thinking any of this through.

Seems like people are already over it around here. Lots of people out and about, shopping, because it's how they justify leaving the house. But they don't seem to care much in this city. Coworkers are also showing their impatience. No will left in this country. Meanwhile, we added marking tape on the floors and another batch of notices for customers to read. Nah, they'd rather pretend it's just not happening. At least most of them. We only got about half of the small orders for the departments that were placed. Won't fill any holes, just stop the bleeding for a minute. No eggs. The big stores around here are still empty of all the in-demand items. Or they get such a small amount it's gone right away. I got my "papers" today, in case we do go into lockdown, that say I'm essential. Essentially an asshole, maybe. Can't wait for a cop to pull me over at 5:30am and ask "Vere are your paperz?!"

So the wife is getting over what appears to be a pretty bad cold. I am in the middle of it now. I have no fever and only "mild" trouble breathing because of asthma. I have not lost my sense of taste or smell. I do not have diarrhea. I have nasal and chest congestion, a persistent cough, and a runny nose. Only one of these symptoms is on the front page of the CDC website. The others, which are consistent with a cold, are found deeper in a Q&A about the virus, as other possible symptoms. Because of the lack of fever (note that not everyone who has covid19 has a fever) and the fact that I can breathe well enough to speak,it was determined that I do not warrant testing. It's logical, considering the severity of the symptoms and the scarcity of tests, but the possibility exists that I, that we have this fucking thing, and there's no way to know. That's fucked up. I am not leaving the house until I recover, and Mrs. Griffin is only going out for groceries, medication, and other necessities, and when she does, she wears a mask and gloves or brings hand sanitizer, which she uses before and after touching anything, I'm told. I am really glad Mrs. Griffin is in a position where she, and everyone in her office, can afford to remotely. I am, too, and I am glad I have no clients at the moment. I am also even more glad I convinced my mother, a couple weeks ago, to cancel her planned visit.

Yeah, I keep the growing list of symptoms in mind. Fortunately nothing so far. Sounds like you're doing the best you guys can. Sucks we have to be so reliant on everyone else, too.
Mississippi is going to show us very soon how bad of an idea it is to willfully, defiantly ignore the warnings, thanks to their (soon-to-be infamous) governor.
"Let's kill Granny" is the rally cry in Texas. "Let's pray to white Kenny Loggins Jesus that it kills more blacks" is Mississippi's.

I called in sick to work yesterday. I'd had a pounding headache all week that just wouldn't go away, but no fever and no sore throat so I figured it was just stress. But I called in anyway because if it WAS something that I passed on to somebody else... I didn't want that. Headache has subsided to a dull throb, so I'm back at work today. We already have 3 other staff people out for the next 2 weeks and every other person that we lose from here on just makes things exponentially tougher on those of us that are still here.
This is Day 2 of Indiana's "official" 2-week lockdown, but you wouldn't have been able to tell from the drive in to work this morning. Except for the empty high school parking lot, everything seems normal which is fucking terrifying.

Mrs. Griffin seems almost completely fine (physically), and I seem to be getting better slowly. I wish I knew if this was just a bad cold or something worse, so I wouldn't (probably) have to worry about catching/spreading it later. Fuck this universe.

Sounds like you're doing everything you can. Everything I've read from people documenting their experience after a COVID diagnosis is a few days of the worst flu you've ever had in your life, then it gradually starts getting better until you're back to normal. It sounds horrible, but as long as people take care of themselves they can get through it.
Oh yeah! Today we have National Guard troops in our warehouse. So just a normal Friday really. I definitely don't get a little freaked out whenever I walk by 4 dudes in full camo in my workplace.

OK - Are the soldiers there to guard the food in case anyone tries to steal it?
Stewie - It's sucky because you second-guess so much about what you've touched. My wife and a guy are her work had the same kind of cold thing over a couple of weeks last month. No idea what it was. I had something as well, same deal. No fever, but the mutations and variations are so great with this shit it's hard to tell.
It seems like this has only become a fascinating distraction for senior citizens in my area. They love having stores open only for them for a couple hours a day, and they are going out each day to take advantage of it. I see so many regulars to the store coming in even more regularly, and they're not really doing much shopping. It's frustrating because the break in routine for them seems to override the extreme danger they're putting themselves into.
My wife got the boot from her office next week. Her boss is concerned about exposure because of my job. I told her she has so much vacation time saved up to just take it. And if he ends up calling her in to help him - which he will - then he can fucking pay her time-and-a-half. This is a guy who licked his goddamn fingers to seal an envelope, because he believed licking the envelope itself would put him at risk. Fucking moron.
Be careful, dudes. Not really seeing more people taking this seriously than those who don't. Yet.

The guard troops were there to do some work we’d normally have groups of volunteers do, but we couldn’t have our regular volunteer groups do it what with the social distancing. I guess people are allowed to stand closer than six feet apart if they’re wearing camo. Probably makes it harder for the virus to see them.

Yeah, camo is a known deterrent. But that's mostly for NOT finding dates as a civilian. Though I guess viruses can be avoided that way.
Bad ad, Sam Adams. They have an ad right now about toasting people we appreciate, now more than ever, with people being close and clinking their bottles together in all kinds of settings. Not the right optics, unless you're all in the same quarantined home.

On a lighter note, yesterday I was at Target picking up some stuff (I finally found a new thermometer that actually works!) and saw they had the new Pearl Jam album. I had completely forgotten it was coming out last week, so I grabbed a copy. I took the long way home listening to some damn fine rock & roll and kinda forgot about stuff for a little while. It was nice.
