Just got back and I liked it. I'd put it second after Man of Steel.

So, Justice League is kinda tanking at the box office. In order to break even, the international gross has to be close to $700 million, which seems unlikely.
I get the feeling the future of the DCEU (stupid acronym) is just gonna be a series of Wonder Woman sequels.

I'm weirded out that I have no interest in seeing a high budget, modern, live action Justice League movie. At least it's also a reality in which we got high budget, modern, live action Marvel movies of so many of the characters I thought for certain were doomed to never have a movie made of them at all.

I feel the exact same way. The Infinity War trailer killed any interest I had in seeing Justice League any time soon.

I think Kevin Smith is right. He often posits on his podcast that Marvel intentionally tries to sabotage DC and WB by releasing amazing trailers right after DC releases one of their own trailers or movies.

Counterpoint: If DC made better movies they wouldn't be affected by really cool trailers. Sounds like Kevin Smith is making excuses for his buddy Affleck.

yeah, a marvel movie trailer being cooler than an entire DC movie is all on DC
they definitely need to rethink their game plan if they want to move forward with their DCEU

Wonder Woman made more money than any Marvel movie this year, while Justice League will be lucky to even crack the top 10.
I doubt JL's failure will mean the end of the DCEU (Aquaman is almost done, and Wonder Woman sequels are inevitable), but they need to get back to basics and figure out what WW got right instead of moving ahead with movies nobody really wants (like Suicide Squad 2 and Cyborg). They're trying to beat Marvel at the game Marvel invented, and they're losing miserably.

To be clear, he enjoys Marvel's perceived one-up-manship and thinks it's awesome. So I don't think he's really trying to defend DC. He pretty much shares our feeling on the matter. DC needs to get better so that we can all win more.

They should've waited a few more years and made a few more solo movies before jumping right to Justice League...

I heard the difference between the obvious Joss Whedon scenes and the original scenes is stark and jarring.

it's even more jarring cause they cut back and forth between regular footage and reshoot footage in the same scenes multiple times, sometimes in quick succession so the actors go from being in character and in shape from preparing for the film to being out of shape and looking totally different cause they'd already moved on to other stuff by the time they called for reshoots

So, apparently Michael Bay is the latest director being considered for the Lobo movie, and of course he'll get it because it's 2018 and everything is terrible. It almost makes sense on a very superficial level, but it's really totally fucking backwards. He wasn't created as such, but Lobo developed into this fantastic mockery of big over the top comic book action heroes of the late '80s and early '90s, so of course Warner Brothers is considering the epitome of big over the top action movie directors whose films are very much stuck in the late '80s and '90s and considered by many to be a mockery of cinema because WB execs are still totally clueless about the DC characters they own. They've kept this movie in development because they realized that Lobo could be their Deadpool, and he very much could be if done right, but Michael Bay doesn't have any of the sensibilities to create the tongue-in-cheek over the top action sci-fi superhero dark comedy the character deserves. There's a surprising amount of nuance needed to make a movie that captures the tone and the feel of Lobo's most quintessential appearances (some of which aren't even in comics but in cartoon form), and I'd be surprised if "nuance" is a term Michael Bay has ever even heard.

Also, Joaquin Phoenix is apparently the #1 choice to play the Joker in Todd Phillips' standalone Joker origin film. Also, WB is apparently making a Joker origin film because every character that's cool or scary or mysterious, Hollywood has to make a movie about how they became cool or scary and take away all of the mystery.

Joaquin Phoenix could be a great Joker if the script is right and they don't put tattoos all over his face. But in the age of "everything is connected" movie universes it's weird that they're considering an origin movie for a famous villain that doesn't tie in to the current DC movies. It's like if Sony were stupid enough to make a Venom origin movie without Spider-Man in it.

Set pic of Captain Marvel. Suit looks pretty spot on. I really hope they make a movie of that Return of Black Adam animated short.

I am the very first person to think of this, but Sterling K. Brown, who played Prince N'Jobu in Black Panther and Christopher Darden in People Vs OJ Simpson, should totally play John Stewart in a Green Lantern movie. He's 41 years old, which is idea for a hardened Marine vet and architect turned intergalactic cop, he's 6 feet tall, so he's kinda big and could bulk up more easily, he's American and won't have a meandering accent, and he's a really good actor. The movie should also be written and directed by people who understand the characters and mythology and can actually make good movies and don't have their heads up their ass. Again, only I have thought of this and I totally have sway at Warner Brothers, so, you know. Watch out.

He'd be great, but I'd bet my next paycheck they go with a 20-something actor they can lock down with a 6-movie contract.

I can't ever look at Levi and NOT think of his as the smarmy secretary from that Sarah Rue show. I've never seen that he has the chops to do film acting, and certainly not big budget action.
And DC would most likely get Michael B Jordan for someone like John Stewart.

Both men are currently unattached to a superhero franchise, and Michael B Jordan is too young (for the next few years, anyway), so yeah, they probably would go for him.
