I don't think he's dead. Melisandre is in Castle Black, and the sacrifice last week has to work for something.
I mean, he's definitely dead NOW, but the question is how long will he stay dead and what will he be like when he comes back to life. There were way too many references in that episode to raising the dead to be a coincidence.

Who the hell is left to root for anymore? And is Sansa dead? Plenty of "good guys" left to root for. Arya, Tyrion, Dany, Theon & Sansa (assuming they survived that jump), Brienne & Podrick, Sam & Gilly, Bran & Rickon, Davos, Jorah, Daario, and probably others I'm forgetting. Shit, at this point people will even root for the White Walkers to scale the wall and kill all those traitorous fuckers in the Night's Watch, and for Frankenmountainstein (TM) to butcher all the religious zealots in King's Landing. Cersei may still be a hateful bitch, but even she deserves some revenge after what she's been through the last few episodes.

I've been thinking that Jon would be brought back by Melisandre since I read the end of book 5. I knew they'd either close out this season with that scene or a surprise reveal of Lady Stoneheart.

I've haven't read the books (waiting for the show to end first), but I did find out about Lady Stoneheart after people were disappointed she didn't show up in the season 4 finale. Maybe they're saving that plot device for Jon? That way both the good guys and the bad guys can have unkillable revenge zombies in their employ to fight the almost-unkillable ice zombies.
But yeah, he probably won't be back next season, but Jon will probably come back to life in one way or another at some point.

Episode 9 (always the episode where SHIT GETS REAL) of this season is titled "The Battle of the Bastards". Jon vs Ramsay! Snow vs Snow! FUCK YEAH!

AWWWWWWW YEAH! I can't fucking wait.
I'm also excited for tonight's episode, mainly to see how the Hound and Arya's stories play out.

Awesome episode this week. The only thing I was disappointed by was that Arya didn't say "Not today."

That was the most cathartic episode of a TV show I've seen since the Breaking Bad finale. That ending... vicious, brutal and FUCKING AWESOME. Too bad about Rickon though, but I think everyone saw that coming. Still, poor kid.

I kinda wanted Jon to keep hitting Ramsay until he was pounding brains into mud, but watching him die screaming while having his face eaten off was nice too.

Sansa had to end his life...or be responsible for doing so. And it had to be something more poetic than being beaten to death.

Yeah, it was the right call story-wise.
And this was easily one of the best episodes of the entire series, if not THE best.

Yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of it. I didn't watch the preview, so I don't know what's supposed to happen next week, so I assume Cersei's trial, but we also haven't seen any of Dorne or the "Sand Snakes," in quite a while, and I'm afraid we're due.

Frankly, I'd have liked to have seen him flayed, but that was good too.

I love the way they handled the Meereen scenes in this episode. It was the culmination of Dany's entire storyline up to that point, it had thousands of Dothraki slaughtering the Sons of the Harpy, Grey Worm killing two dudes with one swing of his knife, it had all 3 dragons in the air torching the Masters' fleet, and it was just the intro. It's like they were saying "You think that was cool? Well hold on to your shit, because we're about to do Braveheart better than Braveheart did Braveheart."

They didn't torch the fleet, just the lead ship to scare the shit out of everybody and get them to abandon the rest. Dany needed the boats.
