I just got done watching the first 3 episodes and WOW! Violence, sex/nudity, Medieval setting and Sean Bean is the lead actor. The story and acting are excellent, too! This HBO series is quite literally Skyrim come to life. If you are a fan of any of what's mentioned here, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Seriously. The show was awesome...but I got totally caught off guard regarding some of the characters that were killed off.
Can't wait for season two though!

I still have not seen a single episode. My brother-in-law loves the show, and listens to the books on tape while driving (what a nerd).
Is this thing really that good?

It's great, I was iffy for the first couple episodes cuz they had a looot of characters and world to establish but it all paid off, once things got moving it was extremely awesome.

Great show. Don't get attached to any specific character. They're all expendable. Holy shit! You weren't kidding. I just finished episodes 9 and 10 yesterday. That was seriously fucked up. But, I still enjoyed it. The end of episode 10 was awesome. I wondered how long it would take to see it happen. I want to see more. My only question is: what happened to having 26 episodes of a show (any show for that matter) in a season? Truncating a season to 10-12 episodes is pure shit. And, taking 4-6 months off in the middle of said truncated episode season is fucking ridiculous. I'm looking at you Walking Dead.

The books are fantastic and so is the show. The reason for a short season is money. From what I've read, they had a limited budget. My guess is that any show thats not on the big networks will have money issues, thus shorter seasons. They did fit the entire first book into those ten episodes. Also, this show is on HBO, so no commercials. Its run time is around 55 minutes. Most shows are 42 minutes. You're looking at an extra 13 minutes an episode, which is more money down the drain.

Also, 26 episode in a season? Maybe the family sitcoms back in the day (ie Full House), put out that may episodes in a season. Most shows have 20-22 episodes a season, especially hour long shows. For any show its all about the budget. A show like Full House for example, could put out that many epsiodes because it made a ton of money. There are so many networks and so many shows now, most have tighter budgets. I'd rather have short season and top notch quality, then for them to pump out episodes just because they have the money to do it.

Hate to say it, but a series as recently as 24 had 24 episodes. For obvious reasons. And, yes, it did have a nice budget to work with. Mind you, this is one recent example which came to mind first. That said, I do not agree about the shorter season and quality. Walking Dead started off with no more than six episodes in its first season ( ) and set the world on fire. Then the second "season" came along and went to shit. The writing was horrible and the lack of progression killed it off. They used a 20 minute plot device and extended it over seven episodes then they take a break. Again, ? Yes, yes, I know. The ratings show otherwise. It was a hit and people ate it up. But there are a lot of people who share my view and know what quality verses shit is. For the record, I would have agreed with you on most points about shorter seasons with quality if it weren't for the latest offering from WD.

In regards to WD taking a break, I wouldn't put the blame on them. Its on AMC. They are just like FX & USA with their short seasons. All the USA shows are usually split up into 7 or 8 episode "seasons." FX shows only have 13 epsiodes then they are done for the year. I'm sure Hell on Wheels won't be back until next year after there last few episode are shown. Its just how the smaller networks work.
Have you read the comics? I find most people that have read them didn't like season 1 as much as season 2. I think season 2 is much more like the comic then season 1 was. I think its been fantastic. The comic is about human interaction not the zombies. I think the show is doing a good job of translating the comic. Look at how the characters are changing. I'm not trying to convince you to like season 2, but there is a reason people keep watching, its a good show.

Also, your hate for the Walking Dead has derailed your Game of Thrones thread. On that note, you should read the Game of Thrones books. The story just gets better.

I knew mentioning WD would take this topic in a different direction but I thought it was a valid point. IMO. ;D
Not too sure I will get to reading them. I have Skyrim owning my life at the moment. LOL!

I'm not trying to convince you to like season 2, but there is a reason people keep watching, its a good show. I can see your point but I do not agree with anyone's decision to cut down their seasons and place a long delay in the middle of the already mentioned cut down season. I have read some of the comics. There is a shit ton to read. And they have a Weekly Dead comic as well. That said, the first season was excellent. If you can call it a season. The comics have their place and the tv series has its as well. I would have said the tv series was better until this "half season" was shown. Truthfully, I think people are desperate for anything other than a lame ass sitcom or twenty. Networks think otherwise and have flooded the hell out of it. Hence the overwhelming response to something like WD or Game of Thrones. So be it. If someone likes WD or any other show, whether I think the writing/progression is shit or not, is up to them. My main bitch is about the truncated seasons. Back on topic. Game of Thrones was excellent despite the short season. I had no idea how expendable the characters were until the last 2 episodes.

Yes, the characters are very expendable. No one is safe. Martin loves killing off characters.
I read they just didn't have the budget for the battles.
Can't wait for the blu ray release in March, although, HBO has terrible prices on their shows.

I thought the transitions from one side of the world to the other following that shooting star made it feel pretty epic. The Dothraki and Night's Watch segments had outdoor scenes. I'm guessing you're saying it's much more big and outdoor in the books, having not read them for comparison it seems good to me.

I think they spend a fair amount of time outside of castle rooms and tents showing off the world. There are some damn epic and impressive shots. One that comes to mind is when Arya stark walks out on the beach and the camera pans up to the red castle. Fucking beautiful shot.
You should watch the bonus Target disc that goes into the effects shots of the series Holeman. It might just change your tune about that statement.
I understand your frustration about the battle sequences not being shown on screen for the most part but you can only realistically expect so much from a TV series.

That could happen now that HBO knows what they really have. I just hope the money ends up on screen and not in the pockets of greedy actors like that fat Gandolfini bastard did with The Sopraonos.

the HBO GO web application. HBO puts the new episode up on Monday...someone rips it from there and posts it to torrents by Tuesday. HBO is attempting to give the online audience with their a perk but pretty much the whole world benefits from it.

^ I don't celebrate Easter. It's the stupidest fucking holiday out of a long list of stupid fucking holidays. It's either the celebration of a corpse coming back to life or a celebration of a fucking rabbit that lays eggs. Either way, I'm having no part of that insanity. I don't celebrate it either. I'm an devout atheist. My family does however and its a nice opertunity to spend some time with the folks and siblings and get a free hot meal and eat some eggs and candy. Its nothing more than that to me. A day of magical rabbits and candy. I support both.

^ Yes there was much fuckage in this weeks episode. ;D
Holy fuck Melisandre is sexy as hell. I think I now have a new girl to obsess over.
And yeah that Tyrion scene was fucking epic but I honestly think that every time that guy is on camera he is pure fucking gold. One of the best actors out there period.

I'm loving every thread of the story this season. Tyrion is so entertaining. It was hilarious that horny-adopted Stark accidentally felt his sister up. I guess that's a white walker!
