I will stand by this movie until the day I die. It looks exactly like it needs to, not generic at all. The more I read and see, the more excited I get. We've seen enough of the "survivors on abandoned island" plot, finally thid something fresh. It cant be worse than JP///. This step makes perfect sense

The first one had its little morality lesson, sure, but almost no one walked away from it going "Gee, we should really be careful with our knowledge." They mostly went "Cool! Fucking dinosaurs ate the lawyer on the toilet!" As long as we get more of that, it'll be fine.

Yeah well those fuckin' people obviously didn't read the book or pay attention to a word of what Goldblum's character said in the movie.

all I remember from the book was little dinosaurs eating babies, the t-rex stalking the protagonists while they rafted down a river, and them trying to kill the raptors by poisoning dinosaur eggs

Hammond also pays the ultimate price for his stupidity in the book.

That first movie has fuckall to do with the book when I think about it. Quite a bit of the shit in the third movie is actually taken from ideas and situations presented in the first book.

I like that idea. I also like the name Whit Hertford. I expected this to say Pratt's character was the mangy little kid with the boomerang from Road Warrior. LOL

But that kid was a douche and Chris Pratt is awesome. It would have the same effect as knowing Darth Vader used to be Andrew Lloyd.

Jurassic World keeps breaking records and has a chance of knocking off Avengers or even Avatar. That means we'll get even more audience-pandering sequels than we already are. Awesome.
I saw it last weekend, and while the big dino brawl at the end was awesome, it still wasn't a very good movie.

I realized recently that one of the things I was disappointed by was that there was no suspense. The first two movies had really good action sequences with great tension building. Even non-dinosaur-related hazards like the slowly cracking window in the trailer in Lost World and the electric fence race in the first one.

No suspense, no tension, no interesting characters (except for Dr. Wu, more on him in a sec), a plot that feels like it was adapted from a Free Bonus Comic Book! from a Lost World toy, a nostalgia-pandering story where the only original ideas are really stupid ones, and a respect for science that only goes as far as the script needs it to. Among other things. I didn't HATE the movie, but it was really lazy and part of a trend in Hollywood towards lazy sequels that feel like they were written by a room of executives (and how many times to the characters in Jurassic World use the words "bigger, meaner, louder, scarier"?). The last 20 minutes or so were really good, once the raptors get loose and the big fight starts there are some genuinely cool shots (that raptor running towards the camera in slow-motion is better than anything in the other two sequels, and the shot of the T-rex coming out of the darkness was also incredibly cool), but I still couldn't shake the feeling that I was watching a really expensive magic trick where I could see what was happening behind the curtain. So it's not a TERRIBLE movie, it's just a lazy and not-very-good one.
But yeah, Henry Wu's return as the amoral geneticist was super cool and surprisingly creepy. He was the one callback to Jurassic Park that felt like it actually served the story beyond the "Hey, look who it is!" factor. If they're smart they'll bring back Ian Malcolm for the sequel and pit them against each other.

One more thing: this summer we've seen two Part 4 sequels to older franchises. One of them (Mad Max Fury Road) takes some real risks and delivers spectacle like I haven't seen in a really long time, but can't crack $150 million at the box office. The other one (Jurassic World) plays it 100% safe and feels like it's going down a checklist of things audiences liked about the first movie and in doing so doesn't bother to be its own movie, and it shatters records right and left. Guess which movie the studios will look to and emulate in the future?
