FISTBUMP!!!! I explained scene to a friend who hadn't seen it like it was a bad thing and they were like wtf's wrong with you, that's the coolest thing of all time. And I was like, "shit, it is, isn't it?". So, forget my hate.

I just want to have fun anymore, and this will be fun. If that was actually in the movie I'd be okay with it. Bump away, Star Lord and trained raptor. Bump away.

That argument bugs me. I heard the same thing yesterday about the lighstaber, "to everyone saying "that lightsaber looks dumb": you mean dumber than a normal lightsaber, right? just wanna make sure yr hearing yourselves" "but the saber's guard would cut your hand and -" literally who gives a shit. it's just for fun. don't worry about the movie sword so much". And it made me want to strangle the person. Because when that argument pops up it's never a universal stance, it's just for the particular thing that person doesn't want to hear any negativity about. Maybe, don't tell other people how to think? Or not to think? That's a hilarious thing to instruct people to do. But hey, if you can provide an actual argument to convince me that it's awesome, like my friend did, then I'll take your side.
The thing is, with a trailer, you want the movie to be good, but it gives you so little that the entire nature of the thing is to overanalyze it and try to piece together how what you just saw will translate into a full length movie. I'm ready to have a fun outlook on the sheer ridiculousness of that raptorcycle scene and that someone actually conceived it, but not be blindly optimistic about the movie or choose not to point out valid concerns. I hope it's good though and that all this absurd yet radical shit works in the context of the full movie. I like Terminator Salvation.

The raptors arent trained, if that eases your thoughts, they gave an uneasy trust of Pratt, similar to other large zoo predators and their handlers

I'm happy to tear some stuff apart, but I want to like JP and Star Wars, so I'm not going to look for stuff beyond something odd like the soccer droid. And, like I said, I'm at a point where I just want to have some fun.

If it ends up being better than JPIII then I'll call it a win. Raptor brofisting be damned.
Also I'd give the movie a standing ovation if that was actually in it regardless of how good or bad it ends up.

What if Goldblum's daughter gymnastics-kicking a raptor in the face was in the Lost World trailer? Would we be praising it? I was in middle school and we still complained about how dumb that was.

I'm mostly just disappointed how many things it seems to be lifting exactly from the first movie.

I'm mostly just disappointed how many things it seems to be lifting exactly from the first movie. Gallimimus scene is an attraction at the park. The flare is forgiveable, the "run" scene I think was purposely edited for the trailer to make it sound more like the scene from the first movie. Overall I think they purposely cut and edited the scenes in the trailer to call back memories of the first film, once we see them actually used in the movie, I doubt they'll seem as similar to the first film. Remember trailers are decisively misleading about certain scenes.

Comparison: JW trailer to shots from the original JP. The interspliced text is a bit harsher than I would've put it, but the amount of homage here might be too close for comfort.

Its a god damn trailer for a sequel to one of the greatest films of all time, of course the first trailer is going to make a bunch of call backs, most of the fans were kids when JP came out so the trailer is going to make them nostalgic and bring you back to your childhood

I have to agree. People seem to forget that this is just the first trailer. It doesn't mean that the entire movie will be reference after reference to the first JP for 2 hours. All it's doing is trying to jog your memory in case you haven't seen it in a while by saying "Hey remember that really awesome movie you saw as a kid?" and hoping to get you pumped for a new one.

i would also say that very few shots there were truly similar, it would be a stretch to say that some of those were purposely the same

I always thought Ookla was named after UCLA, because I lived in California at the time and called the school Ookla myself, and years later I found out I was right.

It was a pretty dark concept for a kids animated series.

Of course at the time it was all Cold War fearmongering in every level of entertainment. Thundarr was a refreshing look at looming apocalypse.

Also the flare scene seemed more Alien/Ripley rather thanJP/Malcolm

why do all these big budget sequels go with no name directors that play it super safe to the point of looking generic?
they could be so much better if they get some real talent in there and made it not look like a made for tv movie
