Reading the Movie Maniacs wish list thread reminded me of the SOTA Now Playing figures and the ones that never saw the light of day.
Figured I dig through my "unreleased figures" folder for a nice look at those figures and what could have been. However, I think I will make this a general thread for all unreleased figures.
Sad and depressing? Sure, but kinda cool none the less.
*****WARNING****There are going to be a ton of pics******
NOW PLAYING by SOTA Toys
SOTA was the third company to take a stab at releasing a line of figures dedicated to movie properties.
Series 1 included 4 versions of the Nightmare Demons from American Werewolf in London, Darkman and varients, as well as the Toxic Avenger (with variant).
The second series included the Creeper from Jeepers Creepers, Imhotep from the Mummy Returns and one of the clowns (with variant) from Killer Klowns from Outerspace.
The third series included harkonnen from Dune, 2 versions of the werewolf from Dog Soldiers and Meg Mucklebones from Legend.
The first two series were great quality figures, whereas the third series...well...not so much, but more about that later. The series was cancelled after that, though several prototypes had been produced and displayed at various toy conventions. Sadly, many of these licenses are deemed unprofitable nowadays, so we will likely never see some of these figures in plastic form.
American Werewolf in London
This was intended to be a box set, and the victim could be taken apart as if he had been torn to pieces by the wolf.
Anubis from The Mummy Returns
There are two different sculpts floating around for this figure. The last pic is the final version.
Killer Klown from Outerspace
A second clown from the movie was planned for series 4.
Amok Time has since acquired the license, and rumor has it that they have this very sculpt available to them, so we may get it some day. In the mean time, Amok Time is advertising a third version of the Killer Klowns. Should be sometime next year. Check it out: www.amoktime.com/893364002595.html and www.amoktime.com/893364002373.html.
Leprechaun
Rumors were going around that this figure was going to get a normal release and a deluxe release with a more elaborate base.
An alternate head and hand were also planned
Herbert West from Re-animator
I believe this was actually planned for series 3, but apparently Jeffrey Combs (who plays herbert West) is an asshole to work with and the figure was pushed back. Not sure of Combs ever approved the likeness of the figure.
Saw
Before NECA made their Jigsaw figure, SOTA actually had the license for Saw. Once SOTA cancelled their Now Playing line, NECA scooped up the license immediately. Probably better, because I think I prefer NECA's version. Either way, here it is.
The Captain from The Fog
Another figure so obscure, we will likely never see in plastic.
Burt Gummer from Tremors
Obviously intended as a box set. Really sad to see that this one never made it to the shelves. Apparenty retail was not interested in such a box set, and thus it was shelved.
And look how awesome the 2-up is...
Well, there you have it. Much more sadness to come.
