the batman has a release date and affleck isn't involved
SS2 confirmed to be written and directed by james gunn and it'll be a reboot with a new cast and characters
DC and WB have no clue what they want from these properties other than money
they just cry "DO OVER!" any time they make any sort of mistake

You know I'm glad Aquaman made a ton of money. I really am. I'm tired of everyone always thinking he's some shit-tier joke when he's a complete badass and his comics are awesome. And Captain Marvel (fuck Carol Danvers) looks like it could be a ton of fun but I really couldn't care less about anything else that may or may not be coming down the pipe including that weird ass Joker movie from the Hangover guy. Wake me when they say something about a Batman Beyond movie with Keaton back as Bruce and we'll talk about anticipation. Seriously someone tell WB to get the director of Blade Runner 2049 and make that ASAP.

I also read that it would be a mostly new cast and mostly new characters. This actually makes sense since Task Force X (official name of the "Suicide Squad") has had a rotating roster in the comics for a very long time, typically with one or two mainstays like Deadshot and Captain Boomerang or more recently, Harley Quinn. Turnover is in it's very nature. It's nature is also a clandestine operations team, composed of expendable assets with specific skills or abilities, assigned/forced to do target extraction (heists, kidnappings, rescues) and target elimination (assassinations, demolition, etc) that gives the government plausible deniability if something goes wrong. They're not heroes and they are not out to save the world. I hope James Gunn understands this. I'd be surprised if he doesn't. Wake me when they say something about a Batman Beyond movie with Keaton back as Bruce and we'll talk about anticipation. Seriously someone tell WB to get the director of Blade Runner 2049 and make that ASAP. He's developing Dune and will be busy for at least a couple years.

Damn! I mean it's not like they'd make it anyway but still he'd be perfect for the job.

I hope all this rebooting and recasting means WB is focusing less on the shared universe aspect and more on making better movies. They tried copying Marvel's formula and failed miserably, but Wonder Woman showed they can still make a good movie when they're not also trying to connect everything to everything else.
And for the record, even though the movies he was in suuuucked I always thought Affleck was a pretty good Batman.

If it were live action, I can't think of better person for old Bruce Wayne than Clint.

Except he'd never do it and would be a terrible voice actor, because he's a cranky old bastard who doesn't care about anything.

I love Michael Keaton, but he's not old enough for that timeline. He's isn't in his eighties. He's not even in his seventies. He's a great choice for Dark Knight Returns or something but not for Batman Beyond. James Caan. I like James Caan for elderly Bruce.

But it’s animated so the only choice is Kevin Conroy.

Apparently Ezra Miller thinks The Flash script is too light in tone and is writing his own "darker" script with Grant Morrison, because it needs to be batshit crazy, too.

Well if it involves Reverse Flash I could see it being a little darker. Thawne is one fucked up hombre.

Yeah, it's not necessarily a bad idea at all, it's just really audacious. If WB doesn't like it, that weirdo kid is out, but maybe he doesn't think he really has anything to lose and seems to have already checked out, anyway. Whatever.

I'd be very surprised if that happened. Gal is very into Wonder Woman and loves working with Patty Jenkins. Although I do imagine that the bizarre seven-month pushback on the release date couldn't have made her very happy.

Two (technically three) filmmakers they've worked with on DC movies over the last few years have made very shitty movies for them, and they're gone, and I think that sounds good, too As far as Leto goes, fuck him, too. The other actors from the first movie who are not Margot Robbie (heavily rumored to be coming back), Viola Davis (also rumored to be coming back), or Jai Courtney (not as frequently rumored to be coming back, but I've heard things), I would not expect to return even in a direct sequel, because the team roster of "the Sucide Squad," officially known as Task Force X, is not a set one, but is both mission specific and also depends heavily on attrition, even if the comic team typically has a few mainstays. One of them is Deadshot, and I would not disagree that they are burning a bridge with Will Smith (even if there may not be any hard feelings), who bowed out due to a scheduling conflict, I thought was the very best thing about the first movie, and cannot return to the role after it's been recast. I would much rather see Idris Elba play Bronze Tiger or some other character, but I can understand this if Gunn's script centered heavily around the Deadshot character and could not have been smoothly rewritten to be someone else, which I guess we'll never know.

but did they make shitty movies because they're bad filmmakers or did they turn out shitty because of WB's interference in their process?
WB is kinda notorious for forcing directors to complete a checklist of everything they think a movie needs

They should let Grant Morrison write the Flash movie on the condition that it's a Crisis on Infinite Earths-type thing that reboots everything going forward while keeping the bits that still kinda work. Really lean into the idea that EVERY live-action DC movie is part of the same huge multiverse, and then blow the whole thing up.
They'll never do it but I kinda want to see them try.

WB is kinda notorious for forcing directors to complete a checklist of everything they think a movie needs If I had to guess I'd say it's probably more on WB. I'm still pretty pissed that instead of an actual sequel to Man of Steel that Snyder planned on doing I had to settle for a half-ass follow-up that only got made to shoehorn in a bunch of shit all at once to set up Justice League. Doesn't matter anyway. I've already decided that after Captain Marvel (aka Shazam) I'm done with DC movies until they get their shit together. Don't really care about another Suicide Squad movie regardless who makes it and I damn sure couldn't give a shit about a movie focused on Harley Quinn.

WB is kinda notorious for forcing directors to complete a checklist of everything they think a movie needs Snyder and Ayer are bad filmmakers who each set out with a fundamental misunderstanding of the characters they were bringing to the screen. That's been obvious from the get go. And Joss Whedon is not a bad film maker, although he does make some questionable directing choices from time to time, but without starting over completely from scratch on Justice League, it would never have been a good movie.
