I learned of Frank Vincent's death just a few minutes after I learned that both Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel had signed on to join Robert Deniro (also Al Pacino) in Martin Scorsese's The Irishman. Irony punched me in the gut really hard this afternoon.

Hopefully that De Niro/Pacino collaboration is better than their other collaboration since Heat. Michael Mann really caught lightning in a bottle with that one. And Godfather II doesn't count because they didn't have any scenes together.
And I haven't seen any of Netflix's original movies (which is what The Irishman will be). Are they as good as their original shows?

Martin Scorsese is directing and reuniting almost his entire pool of go to actors (minus Frank Vincent, sadly) from back in the day. Even Scorsese's worst movies are still pretty fucking good. I'm very optimistic.

Me too. The Wolf of Wall Street is one of my favorite movies of this decade.
I was just surprised that an old-school guy like Scorsese is making a movie straight to Netflix.

Fabrica de Cine (Mexican company) was originally financing and Paramount had domestic rights, but they both bailed after Marty pushed the budget above $100 Mil (presumably to pay a bunch of legends and maybe to de-age them with CG?). Netflix not only bought the rights to the movie for $105 million but put up the $125 million for the budget, as well.

A friend's birthday is today. She digs Vegas and was a Tom Petty superfan since I met her. Yeah, she's alive and well, but she will never think of joy on the day of her birth again. :/

I just read that Tom Petty may not actually be dead. Initial reports of his death have been retracted. His status is unclear ATM.

I just read that Tom Petty may not actually be dead. Initial reports of his death have been retracted. His status is unclear ATM. Apparently he has a DNR order, and was taken off life support. He's not expected to live through the day. It sounds exactly like when my grandma died, even though she was 96 and Tom is/was 66. She had a DNR, and died about 12 hours after having a stroke.

A very pretty cat. My cat Red got throat cancer in 2006 and had to be put down, as the poor thing was kinda choking. She was twenty years old. Sorry for your loss, Frin. Cats make some of the best friends people who aren't complete fucking tools could ever ask for.

Thanks, guys. She was fucking rad.
Also, Warrel Dane from Sanctuary died yesterday. He was 48. And Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens, died the day before at 62.

I just saw that Stephen Hawking died. Sad, but also amazing that he survived a paralyzing motor neuron disease for more than 50 years and discovered more about the universe than any other person while confined to his wheelchair. He was a superhero.

Hawking saw video of Trump talking about how cool it would be to actually fight wars in space and how the US needs a Space Force and he decided he'd finally had enough.

And Margot Kidder has died. 2018 is the 40th anniversary of Superman: The Movie, so of course she died, because it's 20fucking18!

4635 American citizens died in Puerto Rico waiting for Disaster relief during and after Hurrican Maria. Trump said the number, which officially is 65, was "much lower than Super Storm Sandy," then tossed paper towels to people and rated his handling of the situation a 10.

Yeah, it's a fucked up and totally evil nation we live in now. That's also 4635 more people than he knows who died on 9/11. He went to Texas to speak to the families whose children were shot to death, told the press on the way that he was just going to have himself a fun time.

Yeah, it fucking blows. He's been a movie hero of mine since I was a teeny tiny baby with a mustache. Definitely doing a marathon soon.
When I read about it today at work I happened to be listening to some Jerry Reed tunes.
