I feel like maybe this isn't the crowd (are we enough for a crowd these days?) for much disagreement on this, but if one of you assholes does disagree, I would rather debate you than some childish fuck on Twitter or in the Youtube comments. Bring it! Or don't.

Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie. There's no question.
But what about Lethal Weapon?

I would say those two only feature Christmas. It's inconsequential to the plot of both films. Lethal Weapon moreso than Batman Returns.
I haven't seen Lethal Weapon in a little while, but is there even any mention of Christmas? Anything besides the one Christmas tree in the background?

I haven't seen Lethal Weapon in probably 20 years, but it comes up a lot in the annual Die Hard debate. I know Shane Black wrote it and he likes to stick Christmasy stuff in his movies (Iron Man 3, Long Kiss Goodnight, etc).
But Die Hard is SO CLEARLY a Christmas movie. Just because you can watch it in June doesn't make it any less so.

I wouldn't have even known Lethal Weapon takes place at Christmastime if the Murtaugh's didn't have a decorated tree in their yard during the fight between Riggs and Gary Busey.

I might concede that Batman Returns is a Christmas Movie, but it takes place over the course of a couple of weeks and only ends on Christmas. I still think Christmas is pretty inconsequential to the film, but the mistletoe thing with Bruce and Selina, while a small part of the film, is very important. I'm kinda on the fence.

The Christmas motif is all over Batman Returns, isn't it? What is your criteria for considering something a Christmas movie? It has to feature the holiday as part of its plot? I feel like I should watch Die Hard.

Integral to the story or plot, as in the movie can't happen without it, unless it undergoes drastic changes, yes. But there's more than that, I think: Certain themes, Christmas music, a holiday appropriate message, festive decorations throughout also helps, it's not just any one thing, but it's not necessarily all of them. And yes, you should watch Die Hard, you millenial bastich, you.

Bruce Willis himself said it's not a Christmas movie.
But he also plays the harmonica, so his opinion is clearly stupid.

He also said it during a Comedy Central Roast, where everything everyone says should be taken 100% seriously, and he was 100% sober at the time, too. He was also the writer, director, and producer of the film, so his word on this is fucking bond.
Moron jagoffs love to bring up the Bruce Willis thing like it totally backs up their shit arguments and somehow means they've won. It doesn't. They're wrong, and he's a cranky asshole.
