Rumored a while ago, but now it's official. Production on a 6-episode run starts this summer, no mention of when they'll air. No pressure or anything, just make them good enough to erase the memory of season 9 and the second movie while also reinvigorating the series and setting up possibilities for future movies. But no pressure. www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/24/x-files-return_n_6932444.html

Never was a fan. I couldn't stand either lead from the start so I just never got into it. But, good for fans.

This is the second best news ever (after Spidey joining the MCU), because this is my number one favorite tv show of all time. I almost created a twitter account just to support this idea, back when they first announced they'd do it if they got enough tweets about it, but I knew it was a lock, because it's the mother fucking X-Files.

Anybody else watch the first two episodes? I dug them a lot. I'm not too crazy about Joel McHale's character or the idea of a romance between him and Scully, but everything else was lots of fun and felt just like classic X-Files.

I've liked the general plot and concepts so far but it's seemed really rushed to the point that it makes everything laughable as it plays out on screen. I'm still really enjoying it in spite of that. I was also confused by Joel McHale's character, he's supposed to be like Alex Jones but also a suave billionaire at the same time, it just didn't feel like any real human that exists. It also seemed like it took Duchovny a bit of time to get into character, but I guess it's consistent because he basically stopped playing the character and just played himself in the later seasons anyway. Don't get me wrong, it's surreal and awesome that it's back and I'm enjoying it a lot, I just wish they could've reduced the amount of cringe a bit.

Supposedly the one next week is really good, at least according to the critics who get advance copies of the first 3 episodes. It's written by Darin Morgan who wrote most of the funniest episodes of the original series.
That's also what's cool about this reboot/revival series. They easily could have done 6 mythology episodes to tie up all the loose ends from the old show, but instead they did 2 mythology shows and 4 standalone monster of the week shows, and one of those is basically a comedy. It makes it feel just like classic X-Files.

Anyone notice the last episode was basically The X-files' version of the Maximoff twins? I wonder if Age Of Ultron subconsciously influenced Glen Morgan. I Also wonder if they got Vince Gilligan for any episode. He, James Wong, and Glen Morgan were always my favorite writers.

I never really got into Millennium. I remember it came out when I was still pretty young and just getting into X-Files, and the Millennium episodes I saw reminded me of the episode "Irresistable" that had less of a focus on supernatural stuff and was just about a terrifying serial killer. That one creeped me out so much I would skip it when it re-ran, and I got the same vibe from Millennium. I should probably go back and watch it though.

Monday's episode was, without a doubt, the WORST. EPISODE. EVER.
Seriously. It was bad. Real bad. Huge jumps in logic, even by X-Files standards. Mulder takes magic mushrooms to communicate with a terrorist in a coma, but it turns out the shrooms he ate were just a placebo. But he still tripped balls and got a message from coma-bound terrorist, so I guess Mulder is psychic now? The show doesn't really say. The episode uses 3 different songs in different scenes, all of which are terrible. The one that plays over the final scene is that goddamn fucking Hey! Ho! song that's probably the most irritating song of the last decade. It also used "Achy Breaky Heart" and another awful country song about honky tonk badonkadonks. But worst of all the episode introduces two new, lazily-written Mulder & Scully stand-ins that have "future spinoff" written all over them. And since they're also in the finale next week, I'm sure that's what Fox has in mind.
Letter grades for the season so far:
Episode 1: B Episode 2: A- Episode 3: A Episode 4: B+ Episode 5: F (it's cringingly bad)

Phew, glad I'm not the only one. What the Hell, Chris Carter? I really hope Einstein and Miller aren't potential replacements for any future seasons. Einstein is fine but Miller was a cypher. And didn't we already learn the lesson that The X-files are Mulder and Skully?

So this 6 episode miniseries, with no other X-Files episodes or movies in the works that we know of, ends on a GODDAMN CLIFFHANGER. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKING FUCK.

I was thinking that, after seeing the ending, all the times they said in interviews that a next season was up in the air that they were putting us on. I hope that's the case. Either way, that was a pretty crazy episode and cliffhanger. It was nice to see Agent Reyes.

finally watched the last few episodes
4 was pretty good, I like how they snuck the always sunny reference in there when the dude says "The waitress has a friend!" to his buddy
5 was probably the worst thing I've ever seen, so many bad stereotypes and cringe worthy moments. I can't believe that actually made it to TV and on top of that, chris carter wrote that piece of shit
6 was so gloomy and doomy and poorly executed that I had to force myself to finish it
at least we got 3 good episodes
if they're gonna bring the series back again after this they definitely need to step up their game cause these episodes felt like they had been setting on a shelf for a decade, especially the suicide bomber one, you can tell they probably wrote that for the original seasons and scrapped it

For years, there were people on the writing staff like Frank Spotnitz and Vince Gilligan to keep Chris Carter in check. Unfortunately, neither was involved with "Season 10," and we got to see Chris Carter's shittiest and boundlessly unhinged work to date.

Letter grades for the whole mini season:
Episode 1: B Episode 2: A- Episode 3: A Episode 4: B+ Episode 5: F Episode 6: C-
So there were a few really good ones, one pretty bad one, and one that could well be the worst episode of the entire series. But I'm still glad they did this. It's always cool to see Mulder and Scully again, even with a clumsy explanation for why they're diving back into FBI cases after being gone for over a decade. Overall I'd give Season 10 a very generous C grade, and I'm down for more episodes if they decide to make them (and they damn well better since this season ended on a cliffhanger). I'll probably even buy the Blu-ray when it comes out because I have Battered Fan Syndrome.

After a rough first 2 episodes, episodes 3 and 4 were instant classics up there with the best of the original series. Were-Monster may have topped Bad Blood as the funniest episode in the series' history. Trashman (or is it Trashman's monster?) exemplified one of the series' greatest strengths, to take a simple monster concept and make it more visually interesting and effective than you'd imagine. I still need to catch the final 2. Having seen OKComputer's ratings, I will go in with lowered expectations.

I liked the interactions with Mulder and Scully's younger doppelgangers in episode 5. I was really disappointed with the rest of the episode. It was a really half-baked concept and the abundance of licensed music seemed like a feeble attempt to make up for it. Imagine how much more dated seasons 1-9 would be if they were packed with the top 40 hits of the 90's.

the majority of x-files seasons had many hit and miss episodes but even the bad ones were someone redeemable by the quality writing and since there were more episodes per season it was easier to forgive and forget the missteps
with only 6 episodes the bad ones stick out like a sore thumb not only because of the lack of quality episodes to fall back on but because they chose to end the season with the two worst ones
all in all this season felt like a collection of episodes that were scrapped from the original run, or ideas chris carter had and just finally got the go ahead to make them (but he didn't even bother to try to make them seem like they take place in the present)
they didn't implement anything that would suggest that they took place in the here an now, they could have just as easily taken place over a decade ago
the only thing they really did to try to modernize the stories is show the characters with modern cell phones

It was a really half-baked concept and the abundance of licensed music seemed like a feeble attempt to make up for it. Imagine how much more dated seasons 1-9 would be if they were packed with the top 40 hits of the 90's. That episode was a complete shitshow from start to finish. The new Mulder & Scully 2.0 characters were annoying as fuck and felt like obvious spinoff bait. The plotline about Mulder taking mushrooms to psychically communicate with the comatose suicide bomber was a huge logical stretch even by this show's standards, and then when it turns out the mushrooms he ate were just a placebo it makes even less sense. And that's not even mentioning the stupid shit in Mulder's hallucination. It was unbearable to watch. And then as a shit-stained capper to a real skidmark of an episode the song they chose to play over the end is seriously my most hated song of the last several years. Words can't quite capture how much I COMPLETELY FUCKING HATE that goddamn song. In the original series whenever they would use licensed music it was always something cool and relatively obscure, like Nick Cave or that one ambient Moby track they play in one of the later Scully-centric episodes. Good music that enhances the scene without becoming the focus, unlike what they did in this episode. End of rant. My main beef with the finale was it really felt like it was originally two full episodes that they cut together to make one 45 minute show. For a plot about a supervirus epidemic infecting the population, it felt incredibly rushed. The plot itself was good enough, but the execution really messed it up.
