Was watching an episode of Episodes the other night and liked the vintage cigarette machine that was mounted on the wall of Matt LeBlanc's dressing room. We both commented on how neat it was and liked the idea of having something like that.
I did a quick look on Craigslist the next day and found this old candy and food dispenser:
The guy was only asking 40 bucks for it. Looked to be in decent condition, and I figured at the very least we could clean it up nicely and use it as an interesting decoration. You know, fill it with various old candy wrappers, make it look like it was workable.
Still not sure if and how well it works. The guy who was selling it met us at his workspace and explained that he actually finds and fixes old video game cabinets, and this vending machine was included in a lot he bought. He doesn't work with that kind of thing and wanted to offload it quickly, so he sold it cheap. Right now I could probably turn around and sell it for $200. So it was way too good a deal to pass up. Hell, the extra light bulbs that were included are worth $50 at least. Needs some work and love, and I'll have to fabricate a few pieces like extra dividers and a gum display for the left side. Hopefully I can do all that without too much problem. I'd love to get it back to working order.
Thing weighs a fucking ton though. Easily 400 pounds. Gonna be a bitch getting it out of the back of the truck and into the house, and once it is put in place I'll have to work on it where it is. No way I'm moving that fucker out back, just too heavy and cumbersome. At least it's fairly presentable even in its current condition.
The guy was also a total comic geek, so wifespar had to put up with both of us talking comic shit. I pointed to a Hawkeye bust he had and said "That's how he's supposed to look." And he nodded and laughed and said the only reason he bought that was to show his girlfriend how he was supposed to look, not like the Renner thing in the movies. So, he showed me some comics he picked up and we laughed about the 90s Image stuff, the billions of shiny variant covers, pouches, all that junk.
After that we hit up a new local pizza place called Pionic. It's kind of like a Subway, in that you start at one end and tell them what you want on your pizza. All they make is pizza, salads and pasta. All the same size, all for $7.45 with as many toppings as you want. Salads and pastas come in a big red bowl. The pizzas cook in about 90 seconds, coming out crispy and bubbling and fucking delicious!
I went with plain pepperoni and mozzarella this time. Wifespar got mozzarella, pepperoni, spinach, red onion, black olives, roasted garlic and roasted red peppers. Both of us tried the spicy tomato sauce. What a great idea for a pizza joint. It was packed, and has had nothing but great reviews since they opened.
