Reviews are out, so now begins the excruciating 48 hours where my Spidey Spoiler Sense is on high-alert no matter what I'm reading. Rolling Stone article from 4 months ago? Starlog from 1995? Any picture of Luke Skywalker and I'm leaving the damn page.

Jurassic World has an audience score of 78%. Audiences are morons.

Ok, now I think I get why audiences are so torn over The Last Jedi. There's never been a Star Wars movie like this one, and it's pretty jarring at times. I get why critics love it, because visually it's pretty much a masterpiece. There are sequences and shots that are just amazingly cool, and even beautiful. But as a Star Wars movie, it's a pretty drastic departure from what we've seen before. It does things with the Force that are pretty bonkers. I'm not sure Luke Skywalker's big comeback movie was the best way to unveil this stuff, but I kinda like that Disney had the guts to pull off what they did.
Anyhoo, I want to see it again. There's A LOT to unpack.

Yeah. Too much to type about yet. But I loved it. ^ Nailed what I'd have said in short.
Man, that hyperspace jump through the Star Destroyers, though.

In our theater you could hear lots of people quietly going "whoa" during that bit of silence after the ship gets sliced in half. It's shots like that one that make me super excited to see what Rian Johnson does in the new trilogy he's making. If he was given this much creative leeway in one of the main saga movies, I can't wait to see what he does with something he creates from scratch. There were moments in The Last Jedi that felt like Terence Malick or Stanley Kubrick.

Also, this is the 3rd Star Wars movie in a row without any recognizable background aliens. I'm all for new designs, but they could easily have tossed a couple Twi-Leks into the casino scene.

Solo was good. It's my least favorite of the 4 Disney SW movies, but still lots of fun. Alden Whatshisface is great, and even though he doesn't always feel like Harrison Ford he always feels like Han Solo. The Kessel Run is absolutely cool as hell, everything with Lando is pure gold, and just like with Rogue One there's a new droid character that stealls the show. There's one really surprising connection between different parts of the new canon that makes sense from a timeline perspective but that will be confusing as hell to people who've only seen the movies. Good flick.

Please tell me that they made the Kessel run some kind of timed thing, so that the less than 12 parsecs bit finally makes sense.
Also, as much as I liked The Wolverine and Logan and I think James Mangold is a talented film maker, and as much as I love Boba Fett (at least in ESB), and I can go on and on about why Boba Fett actually does a lot more in Empire than a lot of people give him credit for, I absolutely do not want that movie to happen. Whether it's Darth Vader or Boba Fett or Captain Hook or Michael Myers or Aliens or whatever, Hollywood has a tendency to cashgrab onto iconic characters (and creatures) that people think are cool or interesting, due in large part to the mystery surrounding them, and give them more movies and back story and more character development and what have you and take all the mystery out of them, leaving nothing but dollar signs (sometimes not as much as they'd hoped for) and bad to mediocre reviews. The more they do, the more we see them, the less interesting and cool they are. Even if Solo underperforms at the box office, which projections say it will, Disney/Lucasfilm will press forward with their Boba Fett movie, anyway, assuming it'll make tons of money, because he's so popular. The best we can hope for is that he never takes off his helmet, ala Dredd, and has only a couple lines at most, ala Mad Max (and no goddamn Kiwi accent), and that it's a prequel (because it will be) where he wears the McQuarrie armor making that finally canon, so Hot Toys and Hasbro finally make that look in 12" and 6" scales.

I think they actually left it vague enough that people can still argue about what parsec means in the Star Wars universe. It seems like they were going one way, but pulled it back with just enough ambiguity. LOL I liked the movie a lot, it was mighty fun. Some cool nods to the franchise throughout, without relying on any of it too much. Felt somewhat familiar, since I read the Han Solo trilogy years ago. Glover's first line as Lando sounded EXACTLY like Billy Dee Williams. And I liked how they gave some history to Lando saying Han's name the wrong way.

I laughed out loud at the Teras Kasi line, but nobody else in the theater seemed to get it. The whole movie felt like a giant love letter to the old expanded universe books I read as a kid.

I'm curious what people thought about the surprise cameo at the end. It seems to be confusing a lot of people who never watched Clone Wars or Rebels.

Judging by the reactions of the people who were sitting around me, I would definitely agree. I liked it though. Give me as much of that character as you can, Lucasfilm.

The guy literally phoned in his lines and dubbed over a much better performance by Jason Wingreen who never got enough credit and an entire generation of fans have never heard of...or heard him. It also makes very little sense that Boba Fett would have the exact same accent as his dad/brother/progenitor, because they grew up in different places and were raised by different people.

If Boba's just a clone of Jango (which I still fucking hate) wouldn't he look and sound just like Jango like all the other clones did though?
