I Redbox'd the CG movie "Resident Evil: Damnation", a.k.a. Leon sympathises with terrorists. *Spoilers ahead*
I didn't really like the first one, "Degeneration", sure it was closer to the games than the live action movies but it still didn't feel right to me and the plot felt drawn out and boring. This one does a few things better but overall I found it to be just a slight improvement.
The biggest thing it did well was making the gore brutally nasty and impactful, maybe it's because I'm not used to seeing it done that way in CG movies but it was pretty shocking and badass. I thought the plot was dumb like the first, Leon has no place charging into a warzone and the President is a martial arts master? The plots of these movies are reminiscent of RE6 but none of the other games, I'm not sure why they feel they have to make them big and dumb. I think RE stories work best with just a few characters in a small cut off environment, I'd love to see a CG movie take that approach.
I was fairly bored and unimpressed for the first hour which focused entirely on Leon's blooming bromance with an American culture-obsessed Russian terrorist pulled straight from "15 Minutes" or "Running Scared" or every movie with Russian terrorists. Damn that was pointless, but after the tyrants showed up I somewhat forgave what preceded as a dumb excuse to get us to a couple really awesome action scenes. The tyrants were great looking and kickass, I loved the updated look of the limiter coats, it was Mr. X meets cenobite and drove home the fact that they aren't just worn for fashion. I also liked the Ada stuff, I always do. One last thing that bugged me was that the lickers only used their tongues like ten percent of the time. Maybe it's hard to animate, but for a while I didn't even think they gave them tongues and they just seemed like dogs, that was weak.
Ultimately, it's disappointing that these fall under the category of animated movies that are more entertaining with the sound off. The visuals and action are really nice but the plot just drags it down by being dull and stupid. Throw it on in the background with some music playing and ya got yourself a party. For that reason I'll pick these up if I can ever find the blu-rays cheap, or even better, as a 2-pack. As a movie standing on its own I give it a 4/10.

I still say Damnation should have been Chris or Jill and the BSAA in that warzone since that's their job and all. Leon just seemed out of place. I'm still not clear but isn't he supposed to be some kind of secret service guy or something?

I enjoyed Damnation overall but the Ada & President brawl was hilariously cheesy . On the other hand the Tyrant and Lickers fight was all kinds of awesome.

^Totally agree with both of you. Actually, I probably would've loved it if it was Chris instead of Leon and there was no cheesy President stuff.
Have you guys seen Starship Troopers: Invasion? I really liked that one.

Pretty much just the games. I have some stuff from the Collectors Editions and a snow globe I got for asking a question at the RE5 panel at Wondercon. I'll post a pic when I get home.

Aside from the old Toybiz Chris, Leon, and the zombie that came with the pop-up Forest (and I can't find any of them) all I have is a NECA RE5 Chris and a MvC3 Minimates Chris. I really want the Minimates Jill and Wesker.

I'd really like to know what happened to Sheva. I really liked her character a lot, not to mention she's technically one of the main characters of the series now since she was playable from the first level. (I know you had to beat the game on single player to unlock her, but once you did, there she is - first level. Not to mention, she's your partner from the beginning anyway)
I didn't like how there was no mention of her at all in 6.

I think they were trying to appease the outspoken dissenters. Capcom has to learn that pleasing the fans isn't as simple as doing what message boards tell you. It's one of many things, like not being able to move & shoot at the same time--where the people who are happy with it have no reason to speak up so it's not a true representation of what the majority wants. I don't think Sheva was needed in the story but it would've been nice to have some mention of her, I thought she was a fine character and I'd be cool with her showing up again. Might've been more interesting to have her in Piers' place actually. But really, Party Girl > Sheva.

Those are the exact same Toy Biz RE figures that I had, no more no less. They were a Christmas gift from my parents simply "because they looked cool." Needless to say I had a blast that morning. Sheva never really did much for me. I would've preferred a "solo campaign mode" or something. Personally I thought her being there for the final showdown with Wesker was bullshit since Jill was in the game. It would have been way better if it was Chris and Jill taking down Wesker instead of Chris and the random character they just introduced you to. I liked Piers though and just presumed she and Josh were still working in the BSAA's African branch. I'm more disappointed that there was no mention of Jill in RE6. You spend half of RE5 looking for her and you get no mention of her in the next game...WTF??? And as for that magazine article (I don't remember which it was) that Chris and Jill got married and she retired from field work I call bullshit until it's actually mentioned in a game.

So, I guess the rumor that 2 new RE projects would be announced at PAX East was false. The 2 Capcom projects announced were Ducktales (NES) HD remake and some Mega Man thing. FML.

Not good news to me. First, he dissed ORC (I think, always hard to tell what these translated guys are actually saying) that's the last thing I want to hear since I'd really like a sequel. Next, I think a reboot (in the truest sense of the word) is the worst move possible, I'm too invested in the story so far for them to start from scratch. Even if they just mean a gameplay reboot like RE4, I'm not thrilled. I'd rather they not go from one extreme to the other and it's retarded to think that everyone wants it to feature Chris & Jill or they'll hate it, that dude is taking "series' roots" way too literally. The Capcom people still sound clueless and wishy washy and I don't think it's just the translation. I played RE6 and had fun with a lot of it and was annoyed by a lot of it--overall it definitely felt like a big summer blockbuster that was exciting in the moment but quickly forgotten--whereas the previous games were more meaty and memorable; not sure how that makes me a guy who wants the series scrapped and started over at alll. What I'd like most from RE7 would be for it to play just like 4 & 5. Luckily, Revelations should be pretty much that.

Sweet, every rumor makes it more likely so that's a good thing. But it would be a bummer if it was for next gen consoles only. I probably won't get a PS4 for two years and that's about the lifespan of an online shooter.

What I'd like most from RE7 would be for it to play just like 4 & 5. Luckily, Revelations should be pretty much that. Ah, I forgot you had recently played the whole game and liked some (most?) of it. I was still under the impression that you hated the game's guts ever since the demo came out and that you wanted the series to return to its roots. Maybe a not a full reboot, per se, but I thought you were worried that the game was getting too far away from survival horror and more into the action scene. I meant that it was good news for you that Capcom took notice of many fans' mutual opinion about the direction of the game's style and that they intended to bring it back to horror. I agree that it sounds like they just don't know what to do with the series. It seems like their problem is that they're letting the fans dictate their decisions too much. They need to have more integrity and conviction in what they do, otherwise they're going to end up pulling the series in too many crazy directions. It's good that they listen to the fans, but they need to realize you can't please everyone.

^Exactly. One of the most poignant RE6 reviews I read called it a "coward of a game". I still enjoyed most of it, especially the story, but that felt like a very accurate description of the game's overall design. They really need someone with a strong vision to take leadership of the series again.
