I just finished Y: The Last man yesterday, which was amazing, and now I need something new to read, but I really don't want anything too superhero-y. I went to my LCS yesterday and didn't know what to get, freshly off of Y, I want something just as good, but like I said It really doesn't necessarily have to be superheroes. Give me some suggestions please!

Ex Machina, also by Brian K. Vaughn. The ending sucked though....

Preacher and Transmetropolitan are my two favorite comics ever. Read those if you haven't already. Some other really great Vertigo stuff is 100 Bullets, Scalped, The Exterminators, and We3.
Also check out Punisher MAX (the Garth Ennis volumes), and Incognito.

If you're into sci fi, RASL by Jeff Smith and Planetary by Warren Ellis are fucking great. If you're into horror, Locke and Key by Joe Hill and FVZA by David are awesome. These are books that I never heard about, but discovered on my own and they're some of the best books I've ever read. I'm surprised more people don't mention them when discussing books they like. Everyone should check these out. Here's some of my favorite parts from these books: RASL Planetary Locke and Key FVZA

I've always wanted to sit down and read Preacher... need to get on that Could you give a spoiler free review- DVH- on Locke and Key? I've been interested in that as well after hearing a recommendation of that one on Attack of the Show a few months back.

I've always wanted to sit down and read Preacher... need to get on that Could you give a spoiler free review- DVH- on Locke and Key? I've been interested in that as well after hearing a recommendation of that one on Attack of the Show a few months back. O wow sorry I'm so late. Haven't been on here in a while. Well, if you still haven't really researched it yet: After the Father of the Locke family is murdered, the rest of the family moves into an inherited mansion in the small town of Lovecraft. The mother becomes a sort of emo alcoholic who struggles to keep her shit together for the sake of her kids, while her kids all deal with their father's death in their own ways. The youngest of the kids finds a strange key that can turn you into a ghost when you use it on any door and walk through that door. He also begins to hear a creepy voice calling to him from a dark, locked-up well behind the house. The family basically finds more and more keys as the story progresses, each key having a different magical property. There is a mysterious villain who is after the keys and who knows everything about them. The family however, has no idea that any of the keys exist and that they even do anything special until they stumble upon them one by one. The heart of the book lies in the characters. Joe hill does a great job of creating realistic, flawed, and likable people. Each character really feels like a different person and it's hard to choose a favorite because they're all so awesome. Gabriel Rodriguez is a perfect match for Joe Hill's writing. There's so many cool little details that he manages to fit in each panel that you can catch new things on multiple read-throughs. One of the coolest things about the book is the idea that there are all these different keys that do different things hidden throughout the house. There's so many possible stories with a premise like that. It makes for some really varied conflicts and scenes and plot twists. In the hands of a lesser writer that idea could have gone to waste. It's just an all around fun book. Check it out! Neat trivia: Joe Hill is Stephen King's son!

Thanks for the additional info. I knew the basic info about the story, but hadn't had a chance to really look into it these last couple months- just been hell here with a few things, and then too many other things I've been looking into. Going to have to look into this now... love darker stories.
Did you know they made replicas of the keys? Pretty sweet looking... and most, if not all, that have been made thus far have sold out VERY quickly.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Pretty awesome tie in merch... always nice to see something other than figures (not that there's anything wrong with figures, but ya know). I'm definitely going to check this series out, and if I like it as much as you I might be getting a few keys myself
