I've been seeing this advertised on Rev3 Games' (great gaming site where G4's Adam Sessler now resides) video content and the concept is very appealing to me. You basically pay a little over $10 (ooh, just saw that with shipping it's about $20--that definitely hurts the appeal) and get a mystery box of cool (they use the term "geek", to me it's just entertainment) swag sent to you. And it's not quite random crap, it's a specific set of 6 to 8 items handpicked to go with a different theme each month. Okay, looking at the past crates they have featured there's not a ton in there I would've loved (the "cosmos" themed one pictured below seems nice though), but this month's theme is zombies--seems like a pretty safe bet. I think I see it kind of like PlayStation Plus, where even though you pay a little for it, it feels like you're getting a bunch of gifts each month; I love that feeling. To get that with physical merch seems like a blast. What do you guys think? www.lootcrate.com/But now that I know it's closer to $20 than $10 it's a much tougher sell. $10 is fine to take a whimsical chance with but for $20 I can get something I know's awesome. That makes it seem more suited to casuals who want cool merch but aren't invested enough to seek out the specific items they like; or people with money to burn. Still seems ridiculously fun but it's difficult to bite at that price.

I like the idea, good way to entice people. The price isn't terrible. It'd have to be different stuff to pull me in though, I'm not a fan of cutesy things like Mighty Muggs and all that vinyl craze junk.

^Completely agree. And I just read that they only included 1 of those Star Wars bobble heads per crate and the Star Wars comics are just postcards of comic covers; it's seeming like a worse value. I really want to like it though, I absolutely love the concept. Wish we could start our own version, we'd make 'em so badass.
