Discuss! Not much time to type right now, but I thought I'd get the thread started anyway. For now, I'll say that the first issue blew me away. Jonathan Hickman is an amazing writer and Jim Cheung's art has never looked so good. The colorist and inker worked with him to make the final product look flawless. Can't wait to read the next issue. There was so much going on in this one that it begs for repeat readings. I think I'll read it two more times, at least, before the next issue is out. Also, before I go, it's great to have Thanos back! I was worried that whatever current artist they got to do the book wouldn't be able to nail Thanos' unique look - some people don't know how to draw Thanos properly at all *coughbianchicough* - but I was relieved to see Jim Cheung's adequate depiction.

Some people on the internets are saying Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are in this comic: www.bleedingcool.com/2013/08/19/da/I haven't read it so I don't know what the context is, but the similarities are striking. And with Marvel and Lucasfilm both being owned by Disney...

Hah, that's neat! As for context, they're just throwaway characters.

Didn't read Rising, but I've seen a number of the Bianchi Thanos images and I agree, he looks wrong.

He draw his nose too long and his cheekbones too realistically. Thanos is meant to look skeletal, which some artist don't get for some resson. I didn't like his depiction in Earth X or The Thanos Imperative (!) either. In the former he had a regular human nose, in the latter he had no nose at all.

Dude, at this rate, I'm not sure we'll get to discuss this series. Another trip to the shop, and another week I'm denied Infinity #1. The shop owner didn't even realize it had come out yet. lol

I probably won't read it until the trade comes out. Marvel and DC have both really been letting me down lately.

Infinity is seriously better than anything that's come out in years, and that's judging by only the first issue. It's fantastic. That sucks, Skullshine. What the hell is up with Diamond?

Sorry to hear that mate, if its not out next week for you, want me to hit up a local place for me and mail you a copy?
Gent's if you could be kind and keep an eye out for the Scottie baby variants that would be ballin. Have a wee bit of a project going on with there... Will make up a list of the ones I'm looking for, for sure and post it in the comic want thread

Necro- I think Diamonds hates the local shop owner because his business is small. Then they hate him more because they screw up his orders and he calls to complain about it. Seriously, I have no idea. It's truly ridiculous how many errors they make with his orders. solominic- I appreciate the offer, bud. I think it'll turn up within a few weeks once he calls it in and tells them it didn't show. May end getting #1 and #2 at the same time. I'll keep an eye out for those variants, although they rarely get any at the shop here.

I was at the shop yesterday for the first time since July, and they had tons and tons of copies of Infinity #1. Easily over 100. Thanos faces everywhere in that place. I maybe should've grabbed one...

I only did that with Civil War. I got every single tie in for that series. For Secret Invasion and Siege, I was already collecting The Avengers titles. I dropped everything for The Heroic Age. Just couldn't afford it any more and it wasn't worth it. Infinity got me collecting the Avengers titles written by Hickman again. And I have to say, his writing is worth it. Sorry, don't mean to enable you, but it's true.

I picked up the first two issues of Infinity yesterday. It's been a long time since I've read any mainstream Marvel stuff, so I'm totally out of the loop with what everyone's been up to. Rather than try to fill in the gaps, I approached this story completely fresh without all the baggage of continuity. It worked really well. Some thoughts/questions:
-The new costume designs for Cap and Iron Man are really ugly and over-done. -Speaking of Cap and Tony, why would Cap fly off into space but the guy with the high-tech suit of armor stays behind on Earth? They got that one back-asswards. -Jim Cheung is really, really good at drawing stuff. The artist of the second issue whose name I forgot is really good too. -Hulk wears armor now? That's stupid. -That scene at the beginning of #1, with the Illuminati setting off some weird device... was that a flashback or a flashforward? And was that gizmo Black Panther used a new Ultimate Nullifier? -Where is Silver Surfer in all these happenings? He seems like a guy you'd want to call when fighting an army of death-worshipping, extinction-causing aliens. -Thanos's main lieutenant guy is cool and kinda creepy. -Using Agent Brand and SWORD from Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run is a stroke of genius.
Good comics. I was gonna wait for the trade, but I had a Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon so I picked up the first two.

Having read the prelude Avengers issues, I believe the Illuninati activating that device was a flash-forward. Yes, Jim Cheung is really really good at drawing stuff. I read that Silver Surfer is going to make an appearance in the second wave of Marvel Now titles. Perhaps he'll have a grand entrance in the pages of Infinity.

FINALLY managed to snag a second printing of #1. Now I can sit down with #1-3, Avengers #18-20, and New Avengers #9 and 10, and read my ass off.

Does anyone know what happened to Jim Cheung? I like the other guy's art fine, but Jim Cheung is fucking phenomenal and now that he's been gone for two straight issues, I'm kinda worried he's done with it. I initially expected it to be every other issue when I saw that the other guy did issue 2.

The back-up story to Infinity with Silver Surfer trying to fight off the armies was awesome. Even if he failed...

I initially expected it to be every other issue when I saw that the other guy did issue 2. He takes a really, really long time to draw stuff. He drew the New Avengers: Illuminati miniseries a few years back and it took a couple years for all 6 issues to come out.
