Let's talk about some comic related crap. First off, to hell with the Age of Ultron. lol Second, why the hell do I like Moon Knight? He's Marvel's wanna-be Batman, except with multiple identities. Speaking of of which, what lower-tier comic characters would you like to see revamped/pimped to death/shoved down your throat by their respective publishers? It worked for Deadpool, not so much with Moon Knight and Taskmaster (although their still trying, though not as hard). Third, if you like Transformers and or Transformer comics, you should check out Transformers: Robots In Disguise and Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye. Two great comics. I love the sense of humor James Roberts puts into M.T.M.T.E. Another hilarious read is Mars Attacks the Transformers. Good shit. You will laugh. Fourth, I'm bummed that Dial H is getting canceled. It's such a wonderfully odd comic. It will be missed.

I LOVED Supergirl #20 last month. Probably one of my favorite single issues in comics ever.
And as far as Moon Knight goes, I've yet to read anything with him in it, but I've always thought he looked awesome.

Ultron's really that bad? I was mildly interested to see what they did with Angela, but that's about it. Moon Knight has never done much for me, but I still enjoy the Spidey Round Robin TPB I have from long ago with him in it.
Really digging the old Thunderbolts, just made it through #50.

Someone's gonna have to spoil Age of Ultron for me. I didn't read it, but I did hear the ending was a gigantic huge thing bringing together tons of previously unconnected Marvel universes. It sounds kinda cool in theory.
I've been going back through the Hellboy/BPRD TPBs again recently. Them's some good comics.

Age Of Ultron. I for one liked it. Until the final issue. It promised so much and then delivered.... technically...? SPOILERS FOR OKCOMPUTER COMING UP: Here's the nutshell treatment; It's the future. Everyone's dead it seems. Ultron won. But what's this? Spidey is alive and in supervillain custody? Hawkeye to the rescue! They get back to the hideout where we find a handful of other surviving heroes. The collective opinion is, "Wow did we ever fuck up. What should we do now?" Someone hatches a plan. Revelation! Ultron is using Vision as a conduit to rule over the present from the future, where Ultron resides physically. Iron Man: Let's use this time machine Doom built to go there and fuck his world up! The Other Heroes: Huzzah! Except for Wolverine, who says: Fuck that noise, let's go backwards and kill Pym, Terminator-style, yo! Cap: Bad Wolverine! Killing bad! You stay here. Stay! Cap goes to future with a team, including Invisible Woman. NO! She's not with them when they get there! And as a result they get their asses handed to them. And their heads. But where's Sue? Gone rogue with Logan to assassinate the past. THEY SUCCEED! Pym dead, they return to a COMPLETELY altered present. (Love this part, btw) New Iron Man says, "WTF did you do?? Fix it!" Logan heads back to stop Logan from the assassination. He succeeds. Instead of killing Pym this time around, Sue and Logan talk him into creating Ultron with a secret killswitch to be activated only at the right time, in order to allow history to progress as it should. Wolverine commits temporal suicide so that "there can be only one". Back to the present. Ultron is defeated. Time is saved. OR IS IT? Iron Man explains that all this time travel bullshit has fucked the space/time continuum up it's ass. ANGELA! THE END. Buy all these awesome books that are spinning out of the event. Love, Marvel. END OF SPOILERS

I became a fan of Moon Knight with the relaunch by Charlie Huston and David Finch. That was a pretty good book. I have yet to read Bendis' but I'd like to at some point.

I guess the thing about Age of Ultron that annoyed me was how they finished it. Just seemed a bit rushed to me. Thst and it seems like they just seemed to shoehorn Angela in, although her full role is yet to be determined.
I've been a Moon Knight fan for several years, although it seems like writer's have always struggled to find a direction for the character. NecroDragon- the Huston/Finch run was pretty good. I actually like most of the newer Moon Knight series. I hated that they rebooted it 3 or 4 times, but for the most part, I liked 'em. Bendis put an interesting twist on Moon Knight's multiple identity bit.

END OF SPOILERS That actually sounds cool, in a crazy-ass, only-in-comics kind of way. But what I heard was that the Heroes Reborn (ugh) universe, the Marvel Zombies universe, the Ultimate universe, and a few others all appeared at the end. That true? And how would you compare it to Civil War or Avengers vs X-Men? I really liked both of those. I just don't read nearly as many Marvel comics as I did 5 or 6 years ago so I don't follow the lead-ups to these big events like I used to.

is it just me or does the writing in comics from the 90s and before gets in the way of really enjoying a story? especially marvel comics, they tend to feel real dated

1. Moon Knight has been one of my favorite characters in a while! Noticing a trend where I like the comics with mentally unstable "heroes" lol With the Batman comparisons I see him more as a "batman" character without the moral compass, is willing to kill where Bruce Wayne isn't willing to cross that line.
2. Haven't read AoA yet but a buddy filled me in, seems like a cool story though.
3. Skelly, it could be that the writers back then were more focused on selling the story to kids than now a days? I know the inkblot artistry drives me banana's takes away from me enjoying the story

Skullshine, I agree about the ending of AoU. It felt rushed. But as a whole, I liked the series.
OKC, yes, the other universes make an appearance at the climax. Btw, Skullshine, did you catch Doom 2099 in there? As far as comparing it to Civil War and Secret Invasion, it's def not as deep or good as CW, but better imo than SI.
Skelly, I think the earlier Marvel stuff is definitely harder to read for people who weren't already reading that style when it was current. I still love reading 80s and 90s stuff I haven't read before, but anything earlier (other than a few exceptions) is tough to get into.

Every exchange between characters contained references to 53 other events and arcs and timelines and...so I gave up and really have never gone back. The 90s were the time of EXXXTREEEEMMME!!! after all, so lots of stuff reflected that. Some still holds up though.

Quite a lot still holds up actually. It's just that the excess is so glaringly awful that it outshines the good stuff. In fact, I was just discussing this on CBR's forum. Some examples:
The Infinity Gauntlet Marvels Avengers Forever Age of Apocalypse Earth, Universe, and Paradise X Thanos Quest

Age of Apocalypse was awesome then and it still is. It takes place in it's own little pocket universe so isn't bogged down by continuity. Some of the artwork is a little dated but for the most part it all holds up.
It's not Marvel, but Kingdom Come is another gem from the 90s that doesn't feel dated.

solominicknight- Moon Knight actually used to have more of a moral compass in his older comics. If a villain died, he wasn't exactly happy about it, but he didn't get all bent out of shape over it either. The really "crazy" aspect has really only been brought out in the last few series.
NecroDragon- I did indeed see Doom!
I tend to look at comics the same way I do music. Yeah, it can be a bit dated, but good stuff is good stuff, period. It also helps if you can keep in mind the era the stuff is from when you read it. Sort of like mentally preparing yourself for it. I do agree that current comics seem different in the way their written. That, I think, has to do with how certain writers have influenced the industry in the past decade or so.

Best I can tell, Khonshu is real, although the manifestation of him in the more recent books may have been imagined. At least that's what I was thinking, considering the emphasis on Moon Knight's mental instability. I need to drag those issues out and read them again, it's been awhile....

I took it as Khonshu was real, but no longer with him and the current manifestation is imaginary.

Borrowing a friend's copy of the trade for the Lone Ranger & Tonto mini-series from the 90's published by Topps. Story by Joe R. Lansdale and art by Tim Truman. Not bad, actually. I'm not a Lone Ranger fan, but the team of Lansdale/Truman do western-type comics like nobody's business.

^ I bet opy did. Too bad he abandoned us.
So I went to the library recently and they got a shit ton of X-men comics. I'm going to read them ALL!
I've started by reading all volumes of Astonishing up to the current run. Whedon's run is one of my favorite Marvel comics ever and I own volumes 1-6. I thought Ellis' was alright, but too different from what Whedon set out to do.
Out of the volumes I borrowed, Greg Pak's - Exalted - is my favorite. The others are all so-so. But, Marjorie Liu's SUUUUUUUCK.
I finished Astonishing and now I'm reading The Wedding Of Cyclops And Phoenix, which I'm halfway through and am surprised with how excellent it is. Man, the X-men books were well written back then. I never knew. I was a Spider-man guy.

Still reading through borrowed comics:
The Wake #1- Liked the first issue, and I may not be able to wait for the trade to see what happens.
The Dream Merchant #1- Interesting as well, but I'm kinda on the fence about this one.
Batman #13-17: Death of the Family- The Joker is as twisted as always. Really liked this one. Definately gonna pick the trade of this.
Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: The Nightmare Warriors TPB- As much as I enjoy the FvsJ/E.D./A.O.D. films, and the A.O.D. comics, both of the FvsJ "sequel" mini-series have just seemed off to me. They seem to be in line plot-wise to a degree, but the writer's attempt at humor falls a bit short.
