I've been "working" on this custom of Joseph Turok from the 2008 video game reboot for a couple years now. I use the term working loosely because I've really just been discovering parts that could work and then not doing anything because I either don't have the parts, tools, or experience to follow through. Those are all fixable things ofcourse and I really want to finish it, I think it could be really awesome. So, I'm making this thread to hopefully motivate myself to get the parts, get over my fear of sculpting, and just do the damn thing. And also to chronicle the progress if there is any and get feedback and suggestions. Here's the start. I know it looks pretty retarded so far but I think I have a pretty good plan. Disregard the dismembered torso, my original idea was to somehow cut those arms off and use them but that's stupid, I need to just sculpt. And no, I'm not using that bow, it's just a placeholder. My goal is to make it look something like this: Except for the head, cuz that's concept art from before they gave him a more interesting cartoonier face: I think I'm gonna go with this head to save me from having to do the mohawk & stubble to the other. The trade-off is that the neck won't connect so I'll have to sculpt it together or something but it seems like the lesser of two evils. Here's a rough reference sketch for what needs to be sculpted. His armor is deceptively intricate. The mounted gatling gun is just an accessory I threw together, I think it looks pretty close for being just a few random parts. And I'm going to repaint the base to look like volcanic rock with lava dripping out to represent the last level of the singleplayer game and my favorite multiplayer map, "Invasion".

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I'm feelin' more motivated already. SkellyMan, can you recommend any 6" raptor figures that have a lot of detail? Or is that the kinda thing you just have to dig through the bin of rubber Discovery Channel toys for?

Or is that the kinda thing you just have to dig through the bin of rubber Discovery Channel toys for? the jurassic park toys are always a good start. of course youre probably looking for something to match the incredibly awesome alien mutant dinos from Turok 08 to match your sculpt, none come to mind right now though. the UK show "Primeval" has a raptor type dino toy thats pretty cool though. you could always resculpt a few JP raptors heres a few good starters. JP series 1 electronic raptor JP series 1 raptor TLW series 1 "cyclops" raptor JP/// Re-Ak A-Ak alpha raptor...he's a bit bigger than he should be, but he has a great pose JP/// re-ak a-tak pack raptor (foreground) or the raptor from the motorcycle pursuit playset

Whoa, great stuff! I knew you were the one to ask. The 2nd one and the last 3 look especially good, they should work. Thank you, I had no idea where to start looking.
Probably not the same motorcycle pack, but I remember seeing the Lost World one in stores as a kid before the movie and thinking Carter would be the most badass character, then he turned out to be the most background character lol.

Took me about 2 years to finally get everything together for a custom that I was happy with. Sometimes the shit just has to make its way to you.

I know what you mean. I'm still waiting to find something that resembles the head of Leon from Resident Evil to finish my custom.

Thanks! I love what that guy did with the base, T-600 head, & battle damage. Took me about 2 years to finally get everything together for a custom that I was happy with. Sometimes the shit just has to make its way to you. I have everything, I just made it overcomplicated and can't figure out how to connect these ball-joint arms to swivel arm pegholes without losing articulation. I'm sure dremelling/sculpting is the answer but I'm lost when it comes to that. I had to get the untucked t-shirt look and it's surpringly rare among 7" figures.

This thread makes me want to go back and finish the 3.75" John Shaft figure I started making in 1997. I got as far as taking POTF2 Endor Han Solo's arms and coat and putting them on Lando's body, and then I never painted it...

Who cares how long it takes. When it's done it's gonna be your favorite thing ever. Very true. That seems to be the way it goes when I create things. I've been working on my album since probably around 2008 as well, and I only have 4 tracks near completion. But I see the end-product and it's something really awesome and different, so I keep building on it the wrong slow way, but it's the only way I know how.
