Newsweek is shutting down its printers and moving to an all-digital format in 2013. They're certainly not the first. Newspapers have been either closing or going digital for a while. Books are increasingly selling better in digital formats.
I don't see a negative about moving forward with technology and reducing the use of paper. It's simply the way of things. I like reading in digital so far, and I think I can move on with the slow and steady transition.
However, I think comics might fall victim as far as appeal goes, should they ever all go digital-only, even though coloring and drawing is done almost entirely in digital format by many for press at this point.
But a comic collection is purely a physical thing. If it's digital, it's worthless, not just in potential value, but in personal meaning. I remember where I picked up certain issues, what was going on. Looking for an issue was a big deal at times. There's attachment to that physical book that makes a mark in a personal timeline.
Eventually no one's gonna give a gasp of awe opening up a collector's external hard drive, that will replace the long box, and seeing an issue they've been looking for years to find.

YEAH, with comics a big part of the value is "owning" that sweetass art; even if it's just a printed copy of it. Seems wrong to have such talent wasted on a format that's not printed in a physical form. It'd be like if future pro football was played by all of the multi-million dollar making players strapping themselves into a virtual reality booth.
Plain old written words & articles have the same impact whether you absorb them on your fancy lcd screens or on luscious paper but my comics GOTTA BE jumpin' offa paper pages or they mean nothing to me and I only downloaded them to get caught up on a storyline I couldn't wait to own a real copy of. BOOM!
On a sidenote, I'm fascinated by people who have no plans on buying comics ever again but who follow every detail of the ongoing plot via wikipedia. My ex-roommate does this and I'm like "dude, don't you care about that kickass art and how IT tells the story to you" and he's just like "No, I'm boring.".

Digital media for news is one thing, but when it comes to comics and books, I'm clinging to my physical copies like an aging hipster clinging to his vinyl Yo La Tengo collection (which I am also doing).

I'm with raz on this in every way.
Personally, reading off of a lit screen hurts my eyes after a while. Aside from the cosmetic luxuries like the smell of paper and the physical weight of one's collection, consider these points: Books will never run out of batteries, and can survive falling out of a two story window. You can resell them to used bookstores, making some cash back and giving someone else the opportunity to read your old copy. You can let friends borrow a physical copy. They can prop up lopsided tables and be used as weapons. Knowing how close you are to the end of the book by a glance is nifty, but that's a two-sided sword. And as far as comics go - since all of that can be said for just books, I suppose - you can't cut awesome art out of a Kindle and pin it on your wall. And you can't get it signed at a convention, thus serving as a great ice breaker for your favorite artist or writer. You can't hand them down to your kid or even donate them to a less privileged child to get them hooked.
Never digital for me.

Comics are really the thing to suffer the transition.

I will never go digital. I just bothers me for some reason to not have a physical copy of something. I still buy CDs, not that I don't download the occasional song. A CD sounds better in my car than my iPhone ever will. I guess I'm a dinosaur.

I like a tangible copy of something, too.

None of this topic will matter when the Internet goes down. I feel that will happen in my lifetime- in some form or another.

American Eagle has an awesome selection of combination leather and hemp man-bags.
Hot topic has fingerless gloves.
Journeys, in the Mall, has the coolest Doc Martens with frayed edging.
