I do really like the figures they made based on Sean Murphy’s Batman comics. They’re stylized but simple and they came out really well.

^ I saw the Batman Todd designed and flew backwards about 30 years. Spawn 2 basically.

It’s almost comically bad. And I love when artists put their signature spin on Batman’s basic design, and I really love it when those unique interpretations get made into toys (like the excellent McF Sean Murphy Batman/Joker/Azrael figures).
But that Todd design is super not great.

I had a few of the Legends Of Batman figures from back when. There were some cool designs with those.
Among the glut of McF Bats, there is something about that faded red Batman figure from whatever it's from that I really like.

Target had some new Legends today, the Disney+ wave and the Super Villains wave. They looked really good, especially the comic figures. I grabbed Lady Deathstrike and Dormammu but left the rest.
And speaking of comics, I don't read very much Marvel stuff anymore but I finally got around to reading the first part of the current X-Men reboot and OH MY GOD IT'S REALLY GOOD. I'm starting with the House of X/Powers of X book (the beginning of the current reboot) and it's amazing. Massively ambitious and complex, but once things click into place and the story picks up steam... X-Men hasn't been this good since Grant Morrison's run.

Always been hard to read X-Men for me. The 90s comics were all like the most Brenda-centric episodes of 90210. I liked her least and didn't care what happened to her. Might hafta look into this then. I really like the look of a lot of the figures in those 2 waves, and will get a few. Dormammu is just fuckin' fun and so is Red Skull, especially with that smirking head.

Deathstrike is a really good figure, and it's a character I always associate with the 90s X-Men trading cards, so she scratches a specific nostalgia itch. Plus she just looks cool. Dormammu is also really fun. His figure uses lots of older parts so he's a bit clunky when posing him, but he several hands and removable flame effects which are pretty fun. I kinda regret skipping on Red Skull and Arcade, those both looked really good too. The other ones I left on the shelf were The Hood, the AIM Scientist Supreme, and Doom in his white armor from Hickman's run. He seemed to come two to a case so I might grab one if I see him again. Yesterday they revealed an upcoming Cyber figure, a character I don't think anyone outside of hardcore 90s X-fans remember, he wears a blue jumpsuit, he has metal arms, and he hates Wolverine. Lame character, but he could be a cool figure if they do some interesting paint work on his dull monochromatic costume. Simple design for a pretty easy figure with mostly reused parts (the head is new, and I can't tell if those are reused Colossus arms). He's another 3rd string Wolverine villain that I really only remember from the old Fleer cards.

I love Wolverine in the comics (most of the time), but my absolute favorite guest appearance of his was in Garth Ennis' Punisher run (from before it was relaunched for the much-less jokey MAX series). Frank is taking down a gang of mafia-connected dwarves, and Wolverine shows up. Frank has to deal with the psychotic little people and Wolverine at the same time, so he blasts Wolvie's face off with a shotgun. All Wolvie's dialogue is cheesy catchphrases and one-liners ("Come get your kicks on Route Snikty Snikt!"), usually delivered with a speech impediment because his tongue is still growing back. Frank takes care of the midgets, and drives over Wolverine with a steamroller. It's a fun issue with Ennis just reveling in his disdain for superheroes, and it has this indelible page: . Put that shit in the Smithsonian.

Cyber does reuse Colossus's arms along with almost everything else. The head is new, the hands are new, the calves are new, and that's pretty much it, unless the feet are new, but they appear to be reused, as well.

I know it's comics. I know it's baseless fantasy with no connection to reality and I own stupid amounts of things honoring all of that. But Castle taking on Logan in absolutely any universe means he's fucking paste 1 second after Logan decides to engage. Just in that single page Castle is dead and in pieces 3 times. But, no. Just like Cap grabbing half a shield and turning to take on Thanos and his army. Sure, goosebumps. But, really, fuck that. At least with that he had his own army show up right then.

It's the rules that within a character's solo comic, they're allowed to win fights they probably shouldn't. Throughout Ennis' run on Punisher he takes on and beats the shit out of Wolverine, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and even Hulk (kind of). The fights usually involve Frank soaking up a ton of damage before finally landing a blow that knocks them out.
