I really like these. They look they're from a Scooby Doo crossover that never happened.

I thought they were inspired by Scooby Doo, too. I'll admit, I like the styling. The Pinhead and Myers are also good. But the franchise killers just ain't my bag, baby.

Seems rather expensive. I do want that Michael Myers, though. This guy, I'd pass on, I think:

My wife brought me home the deluxe Pinhead tonight. It's killer. A proto shot I saw looked bad, the pins were huge and goofy. But the final piece is really well done. He's now sharing a space by my amp with Darkness that Skelly sent me a few years back.

NECA has a Walmart exclusive TMNT movie Casey Jones/Raphael 2-pack. It went live on Walmart's site this morning. It did not go well.

I'm glad they've found retail support to continue a fun line (both the animated and movie TMNT lines are really great), but MAN are they a pain in the ass to actually track down. And now we get to add the armpit of America's retail sector into the mix. Yay.

Due to licensing restrictions, all Friday the 13th figures are Walmart online exclusives. And in an effort to prevent scalpers from buying all the stock, orders will only be accepted on odd-numbered Thursdays from 2:00-6:00 AM.
KIDDING! But that sounds plausible, huh?
And I actually had some success with NECA yesterday. For weeks I've been hunting for the TMNT Casey Jones & Raphael 2-pack (another goddamn Walmart exclusive), and since I hate going into that place I've been checking the actual store about once a week but keeping a closer eye on the Brickseek inventory checker. There's a listing for the Casey Jones set that always shows Out Of Stock, but there's another listing for general NECA 2-packs that trickled down to Walmarts (they're the DC/Dark Horse SDCC sets from last year). Yesterday the Casey Jones set was still showing out of stock, but the other general 2-packs were showing as limited stock at every Walmart in a 50 mile radius. I figured maybe Walmart's inventory system was confusing things, so I masked up and headed into the store on my lunch break. Sure enough, there were 2 Casey/Raphael sets on the shelf. I bought one, the figures are amazing, and now I don't have to set foot in that godforsaken place until the next time some damn fool company gives Walmart another exclusive.

Today was another fine example of the NECA TMNT food chain. They announce several days in advance that a figure will be available on their site in limited quantities (today was Super Shredder from TMNT2). They let everyone know they will go live at 1PM ET, so everyone who wants one is on the site frantically F5ing until it shows up. It shows up a few seconds after 1:00, and everybody adds it to their cart and floods the checkout system. You wait, and wait, maybe you also have the same process going on your phone in case it's faster. Finally you make it to the payment page and hope you can go through the Paypal process before the thing sells out. A lucky few will get their orders confirmed, everyone else is victim to the cruel mercy of server speeds and fluctuating inventory counts. Like a crocodile snatching a gazelle from a riverbank, there's a cold, beautiful brutality to the process.
Today I was one of the lucky ones, and Super Shredder is on the way. The unlucky ones will now have to brave the COVID-infested riverbanks of Walmarts to get their figure.
And to the people selling their successful orders on eBay for $150, go fuck yourselves.

For all the shit I talked a couple weeks ago (and I still stand by that shit), NECA seems to be turning a corner with making their TMNT stuff easier to get. It's still a challenge, and it's a goddamn miracle if you can actually find something in the store, but they've been rolling out more and more online options and strictly limiting them to 1 per customer.
Yesterday the animated April O'Neil & Foot Soldier set went up on Target's site. It was announced early in the day that it would go live sometime late afternoon. There are Twitter accounts that watch Target's site like a hawk and let people know the second they become available. I kept an eye on that Twitter account (ToyBro is the best one for these) and sure enough he had the link up within seconds. I was able to grab the set and checkout with no trouble whatsoever. The set even stayed up for at least 30 minutes before selling out, and they may even have added some more stock after I quit checking. A month ago when the new sets starting hitting the Target site they sold out within seconds, so whatever anti-scalper/bot methods they're taking seem to be working.
So with both the movie & cartoon TMNT lines, NECA has an extremely hot property on their hands but licensing restrictions are forcing them to get creative with how they make them available to their customers. They can't just sell them in the regular toy aisle, they can't sell them on their eBay store or other online toy shops, but in the past year they've made huge improvements in helping people actually get these without paying scalpers. They've even opened up weeklong preorder periods for some items.
It's not perfect, it's still stressful when something new is about to hit, but at least people have options besides haunting Target every single day and coming up empty every time.

They've even opened up weeklong preorder periods for some items. It's not perfect, it's still stressful when something new is about to hit, but at least people have options besides haunting Target every single day and coming up empty every time. The improvement are continuing (at least with the TMNT line). In the past week I've been able to walk into Target and buy right off the shelf the new Ultimate Android Krang figure (he comes with a bath towel and soap-on-a-rope) and the Splinter vs Baxter Stockman 2-pack (which is amazing, one of the best of the line so far). The day I was there they had at least 10 of each of those, and the next day when I went to back to get a replacement Krang (an accessory was missing a tiny glued on piece) they were out of Krangs but still had plenty of Splinter sets left. That one missing piece from the Krang set is the only QC issue I've with a NECA product in a really long time, and it wasn't an example of shoddy construction or cheap materials, just human error at the factory that kept a tiny piece of shoulder armor from being glued onto the tiny Baby Shredder accessory. I'm still suuuper careful when trying to get all the joints moving on a new NECA figure, with a hairdryer and a mug of boiling water ready in case something is stuck tight, but I haven't had to use either for a long time. The bulk of my NECA collecting is focused on the animated/movie TMNT lines with a few Alien figures once in a while, but at the risk of sounding like a pathetic fanboy, they've really turned a corner from the major QC issues from a few years ago.

There was a small circle of swirling void in the wall back there along the baseboard I'd never seen before. I thought it might just be a wormhole mouse but I didn't want to stick my hand in there.

I may have shit a brick in excitement if this was being made by almost any company EXCEPT NECA and it didn't look about as much like Richard Karn as it does Kurt Russell.
