Alright, so i'm ditching that other script for now....
I have less then 2 months to make it...and thats not enough time. So i'm going to try and do smaller, shorter projects.
However, I really, really want to learn how to develop characters. Now I think I did an OK job with the other one...but I cant really be the judge of that now can I?
How do you approach characters? How can I create a well rounded character without the need for backstory? I have ideas, and I know what makes a good character...but I need to REALLY know how to do it.

Make your characters relatable. Give them a situation, and allow them to work their way out of it in their own way. You know how the characters think, and now it's time to show the audience.

Work on your dialogue. Don't try to be funny or witty. Make the dialogue as normal as possible and the funny stuff just kind of happens. Also, here's a quick tip: if you're writing and you're laughing at everything you write? Chances are whatever it is ain't funny. If you go back and reread it after you're done and it's funny, then it's funny. This is so true. If I write things I think are funny, 2 weeks later I think they're corny and stupid. Another tip I have is to develop everything. Write your story like a novel first, then develop the highlights into a screenplay. It takes a little longer but you'll have a more realized universe when it comes time to shoot. The thing Holeman said about Ripley is spot the fuck on. Listen to that bit of advice if you listen to nothing else. It will carry you a long way, my boy.

Got ya....but eh...i'm going to have to go all fantasy. There isnt much fun in a high school story. So it'll probably end up being high school studnets playing cops, or killers. Silly I know...but since all my friends are going off to collage, I want to give them something epic. And they all wanted to do this Mob movie....so why not?
And that is soooo true about the corny lines. Ugh...although I did write a short Deadpool script, and I still found that funny. I guess I really channeled Wade then...lol.
And yes, Ripley makes total sense. She only was badass because she had too, but became a total badass, because she wanted too.
