The team announced tonight that Jeff Fisher is no longer coaching the team. Originally, after Bud Adams said they were scrapping VY, he was confident in saying Fisher would coach this next year, the final one of his contract. No real details yet, but Fisher's out. No QB, no coach, lots of young guys that need to solidify...Tennessee's gonna be having some lean times ahead. Be interesting to see what direction things take before next season.

What is with the state of Tennessee and absurdly long head coaching tenures?
Fisher was a good coach for most of his tenure with the Oilers/Titans but the way people talk about him you'd think they were talking about a coach who had more than just six winning seasons in sixteen years.
Anyways, they needed to get rid of Young which it looks like they're going to do and if you're going to get rid of one organizational headache, you might as well get rid of the other in Fisher and give your team a fresh start.

Fisher obviously has skills, just not the control. His players always find a way to fail him. Much the same way the Oilers always, al-fucking-ways, found a way to self-destruct. Maybe this will be the spark to restart the fire burning at a higher temperature and intensity. I sure hope so. It is truly a new life for the team, finally sloughing off the last vestiges of the past. I'm staying optimistic.
Locally, territorially, Fisher was torn apart. But in general he was regarded as a great. And as much as I wanted VY to lead the team, I'm as tired as anyone else of him being a complete bitch. It hurts, but it's what needs to be done. I guess it made sense to the right people to let Fisher go.
I really am kind of excited to see what's coming.
