^Word. I still really love comics as a storytelling medium, but I just avoid Marvel/DC for the most part. I still pick up the trades of some of the current runs (the Snyder/Capullo Batman series is really good, Hawkeye is insanely great, and I'm looking forward to reading Superman Unchained) but all the monthly comics I buy in single issues are indie creator-owned titles. Saga, Black Science, Walking Dead, and Crossed. All self-contained within that one series, just the way I like it.
I used to really love the complicated connectivity of the Marvel universe, and during the Civil War/World War Hulk/Secret Invasion years I was buying a shitload of Marvel comics every month. It was fun, but I got burned out on it all.

I'm okay with Thor being a woman.
Unworthy Thor still looks like a fucking bad ass, so, there's that.

Anyway...I'm glad you know the intent behind this, so as to completely judge it as being complete bullshit.
Cool.

What do you guys think of a girl taking up the mantle of Thor? That's an odd marketing scheme, but Jason Aaron's writing it so I guess it'll be well done? I think its lame. It's just another thing that's contributing to the feminization of America. Just like skinny jeans.

When Storm wielded Mjolnir was she called Thor? Nope. She was still Storm wielding the power of Thor.

They've already said excitedly, that it won't be "She-Thor or Thor-Woman, this is THOR!". And I'm not saying it's a cheap trick to gain more female readers, but they made the official announcement on "The View". Oh well, I get that it makes sense to attract new readers, and as much as old fans'll complain it's not that they'll stop buying; the approach iis just really dumb and transparent. Most ladies I know like Thor because of the manliness displayed by Chris Hemsworth, but I guess that's not making them read the comics. Maybe officially licensed Twilight-style pseudo-erotic fan-fictionesque romance novels starring Marvel characters is the answer. Oh god, that would be so horrible and yet it makes so much sense. No one tell Marvel I said that. Dear lord, I don't want that future to happen.

Eric Masterson(who later became Thunderstrike) was Thor once upon a time. So, they've treated Thor as a title in the past.

He was a stand-in, though. He knew he wasn't actually Thor.

Donald Blake isn't Thor either. They just share a body. However, it doesn't sound like this woman will be transforming into Thor. Thor was a woman in Earth X, because Odin saw it as a great way to embarass him for a punishment.

Started the Nova run from not too long ago. Reading Annihilation first. I hadn't realized that was the beginning of recreating Drax as he is in the GOTG series. I love that they've made several sarcastic refernces to the giant, caped bimbo he used to be. Might have to check out the 4-shot of his tied to this storyline just to see if they crack on it more.

I'm with you Ghost - I'm ok with crossovers here and there, but Marvel is making a joke of it. Seems like every month there is an "Epic crossover event" Its a major pissoff and has gotten me away from reading both Marvel and DC.
On a side, anyone else reading Trees?

Why even bother having individual titles anymore? Might as well have two comics The Marvel Universe and The DC Universe. I can see the company bigwigs now: "Wanna just read Batman or Superman? How about Spider-Man or the X-Men? Well too bad fucker you have to read EVERYTHING just to know what the fuck's going on!!!!!! Suck it and hand over your money."

Anyone else use filing cabinets to store their comics in? Recently bought some huge ass lateral drawer filing cabinets to store my collection in (got 'em pretty cheap from a goverment surplus store), and I'm loving the shit outta these things.

I use comic drawer boxes. Just like short boxes, but made like drawers. They're pretty good. They just get some surface paper shaved off of the underside every now and then.

Anybody else read Multiversity #1? It's typical Grant Morrison, with batshit crazy meta storytelling where the threat isn't to a world or universe, but to the medium of comics itself. It's very weird, but I love stuff like this. And amazingly it isn't bogged down with stupid New 52 continuity so it's easy to dive in. Especially if you've taken drugs first.

I'll have to check that out. I loved his craziness for comics in his book, The New Gods. (Was that the title?)
Hey frin, since you're reading Annihilation for the first time (which I have yet to complete, and I plan on buying the omnibus soon), you should know, it's finally continuing in the current GOTG run by Bendis. Also, it looks like Thanos is making his big return in New Avengers.
On another Marvel note, Edge Of The Spiderverse is ramping up in the Spider-titles and it's fucking awesome - for a Spidey fan - so far.

I just read Walking Dead #130, and if the thing that they want you to think happened in this issue actually did happen, then Kirkman is officially out of ideas and I'll have to drop this book once and for all. I've stuck with it through years of inconsistent characterization and sloppy pacing because that unpredictability actually sorta makes sense in context, but THIS... this is just plain stupid and totally counter to the entire point of this series. Unless I'm just overreacting and it's misdirection, in which case I'll shut up and go back to bitching about why the TV show isn't very good.

I, for one, thought it was a neat little way to freshen the series. However, I HIGHLY doubt it is what it appears to be.

***WALKING DEAD SPOILERS***
Actually, now that I've thought about it a little bit more, it's not necessarily a terrible idea. We know that whatever it is that causes dead people to come back as zombies has infected every living person, so the idea that the virus could evolve and mutate so the zombies still retain some basic intelligence and speech ability could work. It's probably more likely that the voice we heard was a person or two who found a way to hide inside the herd without being discovered, so we shall see.
I just think this series hasn't really been about the zombies themselves in a long, long time, so for the plot to suddenly lurch back to dealing with them instead of the human survivors seems a little bit backwards. I just hope it's not an example of a future plotline for the mediocre TV show making its debut in the comic first.

I don't think Kirkman would ever do that. In the letters columns, though, many have been complaining about the lack of focus on zombies and he has been promising a return to that for quite a while. I mean, with a book that has zombies in it as the main catalyst for the story, it makes sense to have them featured prominently every now and then.

Have you read the Thanos series? As a fan of Thanos, you'd love it. I highly recommend it. Jim Starlin gets the ball rolling and Keith Giffen wraps it up. Art is also started off by Starlin and finished up by Ron Lim. Just overall a perfect collection of creators to tackle The Mad Titan's own series. If you haven't read it, Annihilation is a direct follow up to it. BTW, I just got this in the mail today and I'm ecstatic!

Damn, that omnibus would be nice to get. $85 at Amazon. Haven't looked at the Thanos series, probably should. Is that a Rubik's cube piece on your keys?

That's where I ordered it from. Surprisingly, it was cheaper there than on Cheapgraphicnovels.com, which has very good prices.
And yes, it's a rubik's cube flashlight!
