So if the Mountain eventually succumbs to his wounds, Tyrion still gets to live, right? Right?

So if the Mountain eventually succumbs to his wounds, Tyrion still gets to live, right? Right? I guess it depends on whether the Mountain dies before Tyrion's execution can be carried out. Tune in next week. Make that the week after next, since it looks like the next episode will focus entirely on the attack on the Wall.

Next week is Episode 9. The 9th episode has always been the place where the really serious shit goes down (Ned's execution, Battle of Blackwater Bay, Red Wedding), and even though this season has been full of really serious shit going down I'm sure they have something suitably epic and internet-destroying in store.

Just caught last week's. God fucking dammit. I tried to remain skeptical because there is rarely justice on Game Of Thrones, but they still got me. Now I'm depressed.

I'm glad I was never attached to that character.
Much like his head at the end of the episode.
Or most of it anyway. lol.

I wasn't a huge fan until he offered to fight for Tyrion, but then when you see he's frickin' Inigo Montoya with Darth Maul flips it's like damn this guy's awesome. But Game Of Thrones is so effective because of how it consistently subverts the storybook endings and gives you such harsh reality checks. It feels like a kick to the pillar and stones, but I have to applaud them for doing it so well.

I still the Blackwater Bay episode from season 2 was cooler, but this one was still insanely badass. That giant scythe that swings down the wall to repel climbers was one of the coolest things ever on the show, and Bald Cannibal Dude getting a hammer to the brain was nice too.
It was Sam's episode though. He got to first base with Gilly, he killed a guy, and seeing him finally take charge was awesome. He's gonna get some much-deserved respect after that battle, which on this show means he's gonna die soon.

I especially agree about the Blackwater Bay episode, that's my favorite episode of the series so far.

Not the best finale, not bad, but there were no real gutwrenchingly shocking surprises, just some encounters that kind of sucked.

Yeah, it bums me out and not in the usual "the writing's so good it emotionally effects deeper than any other story out there" way, it was just needless and unimpressive.
And the thing with Shae is a great concept but felt like a cheap twist because it was so out of character.

Everything with Shae's betrayal and her death happens in the third book pretty much beat for beat. And it's really not out of character for either her or Tyrion. She did love him and tries to hurt him for hurting her by turning her away and calling her a whore and rejecting her and shit. Tyrion strangles her because he loved her and felt so betrayed by her turn at the trial; although in the book he's also in a huge rage because Jamie tell him that his wife was not a whore after all and that his father made Jamie lie about who she was before passing her around like an actual whore to his men yadda yadda yadda Tyrion heads to his father's chamber angrier than he's ever been in his life and happens to find Shae...

I personally loved the entire episode. Tyrion finally snapped from all of the betrayal and abuse. Like everyone else in the show, he now has evil in his actions. I also thought the Brianne/Hound fight was incredible. The scene with the Hound and Aiya was incredibly well acted.

I like that, the added context would've made it work better. It was too rushed and short on dialogue to feel like a natural plot progression on-screen. Tyrion's revenge should've been one of the most gratifying moments in the series but instead it felt amateurish to me. Sucks man.

Although it definitely made for a better watch than the Hound succumbing to infection from that bite on his neck and falling off his horse. I guess that was the point: one is more exciting to watch than the other.

There's only so much they can do, but while I expect omissions and other changes here and there, I was very surprised that they left out the stuff about Tysha. What happened with her contributes so much to who Tyrion is, and to learn that the worst betrayal he's ever felt until his trial was even more horrible than he thought and that his father and brother deceived him in a worse way than he'd thought adds so much to what transpires between Tyrion and Shae and then Tyrion and Tywin.

Thanks so much for filling me in on that Griffin, it really is essential story. It would've given the crossbow scene the impact it was missing. It seems like they could've easily cut some of the less consequential moments from the other storylines tonight to squeeze that in there. I wish they had.

I was a little underwhelmed by the finale to be honest. It focused a little too much on Jon's storyline, especially since the entire previous episode took place at the Wall, but mostly I was expecting a huge reveal that never came. I inadvertently had something spoiled by one those wiki sites I should really stop reading no matter how many new characters this show introduces, but I stumbled on something so massive and cool that I thought for sure it would be the last scene of the episode. There was even an article online last week highlighting all the clues that it would be there, but it wasn't. Maybe it's just because this whole season was so insanely good that they just couldn't top themselves, but I do feel like they left fans with blue balls a little bit.
But still, a B+ episode of Game of Thrones is still miles better than anything else on TV right now.

Fuck, I know what you're talking about. I almost forgot. Maybe they're saving it for next season. I don't know how the books reveal it, so maybe it has to come at a later point on the story. I just thought that since the final shot of season 1 was the newborn dragons and in season 2 it was the White Walkers reveal, it would've been another awesome way to raise the stakes for the next season. It would've been the most brutal TV cliffhanger since Hank Schraeder went to take a shit. But maybe next year.

I feel like I'm being too rough on the episode, especially the AWESOME Brienne vs Hound fight. And the way Arya just walked away from him at the end? That girl has ice water in her veins and it fucking rules.
When I go back and watch this season again though I'm gonna pay extra close attention to Bran's storyline with the three-eyed raven because I really don't know what's going on there, and the way this episode left it isn't making it any clearer.

It was a great episode. You got a badass fight scene, you get fucking skeletons, you get Tyrion shooting Tywin to death on the toilet, and Arya being a fucking badass.
Loved it.
They need to never use the books again so nothing else can be spoiled for me.
