Wow haven't been here in a while! Anyway I own all of these movies up to Batman and Harley Quinn and this is the first time I don't want to even watch one. For starters I don't like Harley Quinn so I didn't give a shit about it when I first heard the title but after reading some reviews and seeing a whopping two clips on Youtube I have absolutely ZERO interest in watching the movie. Seriously those two clips were worse than all the Damian/New 52 movies combined. Damian may be an arrogant little bastard but at least those movies were watchable. Good choice. It sucks that it's their 30th one and it turned out this awful. I don't know how they could have allowed this movie to happen. It's one of those viewing experiences that's so bad you feel wronged afterward. They should've just called it Harley Quinn's moronic comedy. Batman and Nightwing are written as childish sidekicks. It's so weird. You'd think when Kevin Conroy was reading the line that says Harley Quinn's farts smell like discipline he would've walked out of the sound booth and quit. The silly Avengers parody that used to air on Dexter's Laboratory was so much more intelligent. I'm at a loss. What were they thinking? We'll see how Gotham By Gaslight turns out, but I feel like this writer needs to be blacklisted immediately. www.imdb.com/name/nm0471172/?ref_=tt_ov_wr

It's a bummer that Batman & Harley is getting such lousy reviews. I was actually looking forward to this one because of the classic BTAS animation style and character designs. But then I saw that clip where Harley has Nightwing tied to the bed, and I knew then it was gonna be not good. Sexuality is a tricky thing with these characters. Lots of the episodes of BTAS handled it extremely well, with Batman and Catwoman, Harley and Ivy, Harley and Joker ("Don't ya wanna rev up your Harley?"), but it worked because they were kids shows and they had to be extremely careful with how they portrayed that kind of stuff. But now that these movies give them free reign, they've lost all the restraint they had to use on the 90s cartoons.
But there's no way the Batman & Harley movie is worse than the Killing Joke movie, right? Right? Please tell me they didn't make a movie worse than The Killing Joke...

It is so, so, so, so much worse. I understand the backlash due to oversexualizing Harley. And, that generally doesn't bother me, but it seems to upset a lot of people, especially female fans who want their favorite characters to be more than sex objects, so if it made the majority of fans happy to stop doing that kind of thing; I would be all for it. But I'm kind of disappointed to see the outrage leveled at only that in a lot of the reviews/comments I've been reading, because what's wrong with this movie is just that the writing is the worst shit I've ever experienced. In Assault on Arkham, I thought Harley's relationship with Deadshot was hilariously executed by inferring sex scenes by having the camera pan away and hearing Harley exclaim "yahtzee!". I think that was a great way to add some of the maturity one might find in the comics into an animated format. In The Killing Joke, I get that Batman's relationship with Batgirl was an element that wasn't in the source material, that really sucks because it changes the entire dynamic of the story (as summed up well in this article comicsalliance.com/animated-killing-joke-batman-batgirls-relationship/). If not for that, I think the sex scenes were handled in a mature and appropriate fashion. The sex scene in this is really just Harley and Nightwing having a tickle fight on-screen and then referring to it for the rest of the movie as if they had sex. It's like they attempted to make their sex scene as kid friendly as possible which only makes it dumber and weirder. The problem with this movie is that every part of it, including the sex scene, is written so damn poorly. It's shockingly awful writing. It's the kind of humor that only a 4th grader high on glue could possibly find amusing. My head is still spinning the day after watching it. I can't recall writing this bad, except maybe in an 80's comedy with Jim Belushi. Well, I don't think I've seen any of those the whole way through, but I imagine they would be like this. Raunchy humor is nothing new, I've enjoyed it dating back to Ren & Stimpy, but this can't even qualify as that. It falls somewhere between Dexter's Lab and Ren & Stimpy but lacks any of the qualities that those had that made the humor pay off. It's truly in a genre of awful entirely its own. Batman and Nightwing are written like Spritle and Chim Chim from Speed Racer, the oblivious sidekicks to Harley's fart jokes. It's so out of character and so awful and disrespectful to the Batman legacy. I never imagined a scene revolving around a villain farting in the batmobile. And I never imagined something so dumb could make me so angry. And the Big Bang Theory girl's Harley is so deep-voiced and grating. It's a crime that they gave her a musical number. If you do watch this, you will wish you hadn't. I hope the backlash over the sex scene doesn't overshadow the fact that they've written one of the worst animated movies ever made; but if it helps prevents writing this bad in the future, then I welcome them to take the sex scenes away.

One of the clips I saw was I'm guessing from the end of the movie. Ivy has Harley caught and is threatening to release some green shit in a jar that could possibly destroy the world instead of just people or something lame like that. So what does she do to stop her...MAKES A SAD FACE!!! WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK. That's your climax of the goddamn movie? It had to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.
Seriously what the hell happened to DC cartoons/movies? We used to get stuff like Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker.

So Harvey makes a sad face at Ivy which makes her abandon her evil plan? That does sound pretty dumb, but is it meant to be a callback to Harley and Ivy's relationship in BTAS? I don't know if this movie is in the Timmverse continuity, but that could maybe be an explanation. Ivy always had a soft spot for Harley.
It doesn't matter though because I lost interest in the movie as soon as they released that clip of Harley stripping down to her underwear and showing her ass to Nightwing. I hate overly-sexualized Harley Quinn. Even when she's using her sexuality as a tactic, it still comes across as creepy and weird.

Speaking of BTAS, yesterday was the 25th anniversary of that show. It's still the best incarnation of Batman ever (comics and movies included), and I'll fight anyone who says different. That show, along with the X-Men cartoon from around the same time, is why I started reading comics and it's still one of my favorite shows ever. The 90's X-Men show doesn't really hold up well at all (except for purely nostalgic reasons) but BTAS is still as good as ever.
