Up until yesterday I thought doom 2016 was the best shooter this gen.
But now not only do I think doom eternal is the best shooter this gen it may actually be my favorite shooter ever.
ID created this perfect storm of everything that makes a game fun. It's amazing.

Looks cool as shit. But the Lucky Charms guy playing it in the video I just watched made me dizzy, he was bouncing around the levels like a coke fiend in a rubber room. That's what I can't play FPS.

Yeah, you cannot stop moving for a second in this or you're dead. It's much tougher than doom 2016.

Playdead's "Inside" on the iPad. I really liked "Limbo" that they did before this, and Inside is like that but so much better and weirder. Fucking creepy and bizarre. A really fun platformer.

After a rough night with no sleep last night REmake 3 finally arrived today and hot damn is it fun.
Little confused why they took out the zombie dismemberment in this one though. I've been shooting legs left and right but they don't fall off anymore.

Control was great. I couldn't stop playing. Every time I turned off the game to do something else all I could think about was getting back to playing it.
It's like a cross between twin peaks, the lost room, and max payne. It's very bizarre and surreal which is basically remedy doing what they do best.
It's like they perfectly captured dream logic and made a game about it.

I know I said all this back when it came out but SWEET TAPDANCING JESUS THIS GAME IS GOOD.

I started playing Spider-Man again and man I hope they drop the MJ/Miles stealth sections in the sequel because they just absolutely kill the momentum.

I replayed that last month too, and yep, those stealth missions are awful.

Man, the blood and gore in tlou part 2 is fucking brutal and awesome.
You can literally blow the enemies to pieces now and they don't disappear like in most games and if you run over the top of them you'll kick the chunks around.
I had one dude jump down off a ledge right on to one of my shrapnel bombs and it blew the entire bottom half of his body off and his legs and feet and stuff were splattered all over the walls.

That sounds worth the price alone. I got the first one on sale a good while back but it's still sitting there. Damn I need to play some real games again. Every time I come across any portion of King of Kong I'm reminded how badly Billy Mitchell should have his ass kicked by the universe.

Rocksteady's new DC game is Suicide Squad. And from the promo art they released, it looks like the Justice League are the "villains" in the game. I'm a little bummed it isn't a next-gen Batman Beyond or Superman game, but this could still be really cool.

I bet it'll be a fun game, but I've never understood this idea of sending the Suicide Squad after Superman. That's some David Ayer shit, and there's a reason they don't do that in the comics and Task Force X usually sticks to heists and kidnappings and assassinations and thefts and the like. Virtually no one who has ever been on the roster can do shit to Superman. As a team, they could accomplish slightly more than nothing. Against the whole Justice League it would be less than that. Wooooo!

The purple haze coming off his eyes in that picture leads me to believe it's actually bizarro.

They announced this last week, and it get released next week. That's the kind of quick turnaround I like to see. It's also a limited release (meaning it gets taken off shelves next March), which isn't something I can remember a game company doing before.
But I'm sold. Mario 64 came out 24 years ago and it's still the biggest leap forward in game design I've seen in my lifetime. I love that the HD port kept the clunky polygons instead of smoothing them out for a more modern look. I had fun with Mario Sunshine back in the day, but it never quite clicked with me the way Mario 64 did. And since I never had a Wii I've never played Mario Galaxy, so that'll be fun.
Since it looks like an N64 Classic Mini console won't happen anytime soon, this is the next best thing and I'm sold. Now if they'll do the same thing and a make a Switch port of the Metroid Prime trilogy then I'd be mighty happy indeed. Hell, do a limited release Switch port of the 3D Zelda games. Even just the N64 Zelda games on Switch would make me happy.

MS is buying zenimax for $7.5 bil.
Hopefully this'll mean MS can finally provide bethesda with the means to make a new engine for ES and fallout.

So does that mean stuff like Evil Within and Doom are now Xbox exclusives?

Any new games made under zenimax could potentially be XBOX exclusives if MS chooses.

MK11 added Mileena, Rain, and Rambo today so I've spent the last few hours playing Mileena. She's still just as fun as always. Super happy they brought her back.
Probably about to try Rain next then I'll get around to Rambo.

I'm super late to the party on this one, but over the weekend I finally played Limbo. I've been meaning to get that game since it came out 2 presidents ago but just never got around to it. Then I saw it on the Nintendo shop for real cheap so I bought it. Holy crap what a game. Complete and total masterpiece. It's one of those games where every single aspect is just absolutely flawless. The black & white graphics with the subtle film grain filter are beautiful. The sound design is minimalist and atmospheric with just enough audio clues to nudge you towards a solution if you listen closely. The puzzles are difficult without being overly frustrating. The control scheme is simple and responsive so you don't feel like you're solving a puzzle and wrestling with your controller at the same time. Perfect length too, it's short but just long enough to still feel satisfying (George Takei Oh My Dot Gif). Just... wow. Stunning game that for some reason I waited 11 years to play. And then there's another newer game by the same studio! Gonna download that one and try to knock it out over the weekend. It's so beautiful and spooky like a Neil Gaiman children's book.

Can't wait. I played Limbo in several little chunks, but with Inside I kinda want to sit down with it this weekend and try to knock it out in one or two sittings. If it's about the same length as Limbo that should be doable, especially if I get snowed in again.

You should check out little nightmares 1 and 2 if you enjoy that type of game.
They're very similar.

Great game. Inside is even better. Dude you weren't kidding. I played Inside all the way through yesterday (took about 2-3 hours), and it really is a better game. I like Limbo's graphics better, but Inside has more interesting puzzles (still tricky, but a little less brain-wracking than some of the spots in Limbo that completely stumped me) and that TOTALLY FUCKING BONKERS final section. Shit gets really really weird there at the end. What a great game.

Been going down a rabbit hole with indie games on Switch. Over the weekend I played Katana Zero. It's a super cool 16-bit side scroller that looks like it could be from 1994, but with a rewind gameplay gimmick that makes it one of the most intense action games I've played in a long time.
