Here we can talk smaller upcoming movies that aren't worth a whole thread. Just be mindful of rumors or news that could be plot spoilers. I'm trying to figure out if I shoud be excited for "The Purge: Anarchy", which releases in June. I thought the first was a cool new idea, handled better than expected, that still didn't quite deliver on its full potential. The sequel takes the premise in the kind of direction I was hoping for, with a couple stranded in the city on Purge night, so we get to see the big picture. I'm getting a strong "The Warriors" vibe from the trailers and taking that to its horror extreme could be very cool. The biggest thing going for this sequel is that the writer/director of the first is returning; so, if nothing else, hopefully it will be consistent. I found out he also wrote the "Assault On Precinct 13" remake and the low-budget "Skinwalkers", both of which had that special something that made me like them much more than I feel like I should have. As for negatives, this one doesn't feature any really big names, which can be fine, but is less reassuring. The lead guy was in "Friday Night Lights" and "The Last Stand" but I've never heard of him, and it has the awesome Michael K. Williams from "Boardwalk Empire", but he's not exactly a headliner. The other thing that worries me is the trailer doesn't show many of the intense character moments that comprised most of the first movie's. Hopefully, that's more because it's an early trailer and not because it's lacking that stuff. The fact that they used Lena Headey's soundbyte from the first movie also set off some warning lights, but we'll see. Here's the trailer: And hey, to keep this thread moving, if no one has thoughts on that movie feel free to move on to another you'd like to discuss.

Aside from the obvious (the upcoming Marvel movies, Godzilla, and the new Planet of the Apes) Dracula Untold, 22 Jump Street, and A Million Ways to Die in the West are on my radar as possible movies to see.

Green Inferno could be really good. Basically the same premise as Cannibal Holocaust but without the pointless killing of live animals that keeps me from ever watching that movie.

Heard bad things about Green Inferno. Which doesn't surprise me because Eli Roth is bad.

I can't believe he's still only written & directed 3 full-length movies, but they've all been extremely well done.

Yeah, Eli Roth is the opposite of bad. He's un-bad. Some of his stuff is pretty tough to watch (especially act 2 of the first Hostel) but it's all incredibly well made.

What do you guys think about "Transendence"? Looks like it could be a really cool cyberpunk flick, but I've been burned by enough cool looking Johnny Depp movies to be skeptical.

Yeah, when was the last good cyberpunk movie? Has there been one since The Matrix?
Transcendence looks like it could be cool. The cast is great.

Dredd (the Karl Urban movie, anyway) is generally considered cyberpunk, and yeah, Transcendence looks damn interesting.

Yeah, The Matrix made everyone too intimidated to even attempt mainstream cyberpunk again until recently. Seeing some faith in "Transendence" gives me hope that it won't have a "Secret Window" ending. I guess this is appropriate for this thread. Anything y'all wanna see in here?

The universe of Judge Dredd is basically "Idiocracy" with more guns, mutants, cyborgs, clones, and robots; it's definitely cyberpunk. But since "Dredd" only took place in one building it's not as overt.

I watched the trailer for "Walk Of Shame" with Elizabeth Banks, not expecting much, but it looks pretty damn funny. The "Green Inferno" trailer barely showed anything but I'm already freaked out. There's no way I'm seeing that in the theater.

Just heard about Birdman for the first time the other day. Sounds like it could be a good one. Stars Michael Keaton as a washed-up actor who used to play a superhero in movies, and who is trying to make a comeback on Broadway...as a character who is a washed-up actor who used to play a superhero. Or something like that. Comes out in October.
