Just picked up Aquaman. I've been hearing lots of good things about it!

Aquaman and Detective Comics are my favorite books of the reboots so far. I love Green Lantern and am surprised at how solid Red Lanterns is.

Ok, honest question: I'm aware that this 'Batwoman' has been around a couple years, and I did pick up issue 1 of the 'New 52'. But someone please tell me-- what the heck is her origin? Why does SHE dress like a bat? I know why Bruce does; I know why Barbara does-- what's her story? I do a search and all I find is 'omg she's a lesbian'

Is it? I'm not a DC fan. I'm only reading Batman for the Greg.

^Well yeah, DC just overtook Marvel in sales. Marvel is soooo hard to just jump into now. I read Civil War and that is about all that I have read, Marvelwise.

Huh. I was about to ask why no one is talking about Marvel up in this bitch. I love Marvel. Read Brubaker's Captain America. DO IT! Also, JMS' Thor. And Jason Aaron's Wolverine. Pure gold.

I had a feeling you would be the one who would disagree. Meh, I'll enjoy my nice comics thank you very much. Also, consider this, for over 70 years, and 60 with Marvel, they've both kept the characters relevant, how long did you really think they could stay with the 'original' universe? They've been lucky enough to reintegrate into more modern times for each decade. What happens when we live in a Batman Beyond like future? Will we finally let those old characters go, or will they be updated once again?

Will we finally let those old characters go, or will they be updated once again? Well, I'm glad I didn't disappoint. ;D Look, I understand that the creative wellspring has pretty much run dry...but there's no reason they can't keep on keeping on. You hit the nail on the head. All they have to do is restructure the environments these characters live in to match the time period. That's what they've been doing since the beginning. It's an integration of the suspension of disbelief. Let's say for the sake of argument that Batman was 20 when he debuted in 1939. That means he would have turned 92 this year, yet he's not clobbering Clayface with his walker or running down Hush in a Hoveround is he? ;D I just don't find the whole "starting over at square one" whilst "retaining all the key storylines" creative. I see it as a license to redo the same shit over again so they can cash a paycheck and claim they've made their mark on history.

^I get that. It is what it is, but at least they aren't doing a shitty job (though you may disagree) Geoff Johns has really been hitting it out of the park. His Aquaman issues have been great.

It stared out with number one and then went to 600 something after issue 40 or so, to keep with the ast volume's number system I gess. Now the whole rag is called Cap and Bucky and it's in the 600s. Now I don't know what sense they have by not numbering the trades.

Among the issues I picked up recently was Aquaman, because people have been saying good things about it. Anyone else think it's funny how in issue #1, it's pretty much everyone in the city asking Aquaman why he sucks? An odd choice for a first issue, lol. Maybe they're trying to make Aquaman an 'underdog', like Rocky or something. I dunno. I probably won't get issue 2.
But at least they finally threw away the whole 'talk to fish' bullshit. I did like that. When someone asked him, he basically replied 'no I don't 'talk to fish', numbnuts. Fish are fucking retarded. But I can make them do shit for me' Ok so that's not HOW he said it, but if he did I'd keep buying it, lol!

^I'd like the fish and chips.
As for Brubaker Cap, the only way to know is to read the publication page which will list the individual issues, and I'm never interested in searching that out when I'm holding a trade.

That whole first issue was basically taking on the whole "Aquaman sucks and he has a stupid superpower" idea. It was pretty clever how they handled it, but it still felt a bit forced.

Because I have time to kill (and because the comics are awesome), here's the order for Brubaker's Cap run:
Winter Soldier (1-2) Red Menace (1-2) Civil War Death of Captain America (1-3) The Man With No Face Road to Reborn Captain America Reborn Two Americas No Escape The Trial of Captain America Prisoner of War
That's all the trades out so far.

I still read Punisher MAX, but mostly out of habit and because of how much I loved the Garth Ennis run. It's a good series but still a pale shadow of the Garth Ennis run.

Ah, see I thought you were talking about single issues. Yeah, the trades aren't numbered. But an easy way to figure out the order, I've found, is to look at the inside cover. There's an ad showing you other volumes and they're in order. The one in your hands would be last after those listed. It's still lame, but at least you don't have to try to make out the tiny publication print.

Punisher MAX is my favorite monthly comic right now, and in turn has propelled Jason Aaron as one of my new favorite writers. Jason Aaron is writing Punisher now? Will get. And if you like Jason Aaron, fucking read Scalped. It's become my number one favorite comic book of all time, bypassing V For Vendetta, Watchmen, and The Walking Dead. I can tell by your avatar, it would be in your tastes. Best characterization I've ever seen done in the medium of comics. Now I read anything by Aaron.

OK, definitely gonna check that out.
Aaron's been on Punisher for several issues now, did a great arc for Kingpin and Bull's Eye and now is on Elektra. It's good stuff.
